Has anyone else noticed the only links on www.colt.com are to Law Enforcement, Military, Mercenary products?

Are they discontinuing the 1911 line? I just bought a 1991A1 Government Model and wanted to check up on some specs on their website and it seems like Colt is LE/mil only now.

Anyway here's my new pony.

It's the only 1911 I've ever bought that worked 100% straight out of the box. Fed FMJ and Winchester Talons flawlessly. I think I found myself a keeper, even moreso if Colt is no longer going to sell handguns to civvies.

I noticed this recently too and asked for the link the civilian site a while ago. Below is the reason the link changed and the link.

November 4, 2002
Colt splits in two companies
Effective November 4, 2002, Colt completed reorganizing its operations into separate military and commercial businesses. As a result Colt Defense, LLC was established to conduct the business of manufacturing and selling military products while Colt’s Manufacturing Company, Inc. will continue to manufacture and sell commercial products. The ultimate goal of this reorganization is to better position and equip each business to compete in it’s own marketplace.

The only Colt revolver left is the Single Action Army. I'd guess Colt is gradually pulling the plug on the market that made the company great. It's probably got lots of old parts to get rid of.

Wrong.

Colt has suspended production of the Python and Anaconda so they can install new production equipment AND catch up on production of the M4 for the military.
(There's a war on, ya know).

Colt will be reinstating production of DA revolvers early next year, and there are rumors of new revolvers coming from Colt.

Hopefully they can come up with one that costs less than a grand.

It does not take a Marketing Degree to figure out that the revolver market is toast. Just look at the number of posts on this section of the Forum vs. the revolver section. CZ is dropping the DW line of revolvers. It is all about OROOA.

Or you could go over to www.smith-wessonforum.com and compare the number of daily posts in their semi-automatic forum to their modern revolver (it's really 1940 or 50 something to present revolvers) forum. Seems like a majority of the revolver lovers (and this category of gun owners is dominated by S&W owners) congregate over there. I think revolver sales have seen their peak (b/c of the AWB) but they will continue to be a significant force in the market. Colt will never recapture any significant percentage of the revolver market b/c they're making the wrong revolvers. They need to bring back their Magnum Carry and a few other most popular models and, as has been noted, price them competitively. An Anaconda for over $1000 is ridiculous. They might get away with it for Pythons, but only b/c of the reputation Pythons have had over the years. Personally, I'd like to see Diamondbacks in .38 and .22 again (used prices on these are way up there).

On another forum, a link was posted to a news story that Colt has suspended civilian production of the AR. Reason is to catch up on military and gov't production. Also if you look at their military website, they now cater to private security companies that are operating in the sand box and the 'stan.

Honestly, if they really want to thumb their noses at the civilian market, I'd say good riddance. Buy Bushmaster, Kimber, Springfield Armory. I remember some years back that they lost an M16 contract to FN b/c there was questions about the solvency of the company. They could hardly be in better shape now. I'm saddened to see an old maker on the way out, but the plain simple fact of the matter is that it's been some time since they had an upper management capable of running a gun company and it shows.

Colt has stated at the last shotshow that the goal for pistol production in 2005 is to increase 50%. Ellett Bros., Davidsons, and Lew Horton all have had Colt pistols on their public websites for quite a while now. EVERY gun store and pawn shop in my area has new Colts in stock, quality under General Keyes is good, but yet you state it saddens you to see an old maker on the way out.....where do you get this information?????...You can say good riddance...I'm buying new Colts!!!... :banghead: :cuss:

I'd disagree. With CCW reforms, small, light barreled revolvers are becoming very popular.

I bought my S&W 642 for CCW. I am encouraged that the company split and they are concentrating on a Commercial Line of handguns. I find myself looking at 1911 pictures more and more. I probably will get one for CCW sometime soon.

And buy the way, Thanks for the link!! I couldn't find it either. Aargh!! My pictures are back.

Making the wrong revolvers at the wrong prices with the wrong levels of quality has been a Colt specialty for decades.

Somebody really ought to buy the civilian division of Colt and do the job right again.

Well go to the Colt, Ruger, and S&W forums and take the same survey. On each one of them the Revolver threads outnumber the Semi-autos. Maybe a Marketing Degree holder would know to look at more than one source to compile their analysis.
You just failed to consider that there are more makers of semi-autos than revolvers so of course they would have more post on a generalized forum like this, but that does not mean the revolver market is dead or dying. It is in fact quite healthy and still steadily growing.

CZ is dropping the DW line of revolvers.
Where is this news? I have heard that the DW line of revolvers may be expanding.

No he may be the figure head, But the corrupt union is in charge! :fire: Colt is not on the way out if you look at all the major dealers web sites they all have colts in stock! Maybe the problem is that your local dealer would rather buy cheap springfields or kimbers. Im sure there easier to get than colts and they are more readily available! Am I wrong but they have dealer programs were they push these brands on consumers! My Friend is given special pricing based on the large volumes of guns he sales!

This is not a new occurance.

Don't forget that Colt has ALWAYS relied heavily on military and police sales.
A large part of Colt resources has always been directed there.

There has been at least one Colt manufactured product adopted by and in use by the US Military CONTINUOUSLY since 1847.
