Colt officers ACP Mk IV Series 80

Hi. I am new to this site and was really hoping someone could help me find out some info on this gun. I did some searching of the forums but found nothing conclusive and also searched on google and the only prices I can find are such a huge range (ranging from mid 400's to $900) so I am not sure where this gun falls in that range. There are other posts asking similar questions on other forums and the ones I read were not answered or the info was not pertaining to my gun (ie different finish or serial number series).

The gun is a matte blue Colt Officers ACP. On the left side of the slide it says "Colt Mk IV" and below that it says "Series 80". It has wood grips and is in very good condition. I would guess it to be in 85-90% but does show some minor holster wear on the bluing and also a few small scratches on the slide. All routine wear for a pistol that has seen some light use. The Serial number is FA244XX. I searched a couple databases of colt serial numbers but could not find this specific pistol in any of them. If what I gather from Colt's website is correct, they want $100 for the info that I am looking for and I just cannot bring myself to pay that. I was hoping someone out there would know something about this gun or have a blue book that has it in it. By the way, I paid $400 for this gun at a local gun shop but they had it listed as a model 1991A1 and I am pretty sure that this is not a 1991 because it does not say anything on it to reflect 1991 in any way shape or form. I am thinking that the gun shop had it mis-labeled as a 1991 and it is actually an older more valueable gun. At least that is what I am hoping. Again, thanks in advance for any help.

OK so I did some more research and mine is definitely not a 1991 model. It only has 2 lines on the side that says Colt Mk IV and below Series 80. From what I gather the 1991 models have 3 lines and say "Colts Government Model" and then mk iv series 80 on line 2 and 3. Also some said 1991A1 on them. So, I do have a older one, but the question is what is it worth in 90%

I believe a standard blue Mk IV Officer Model will go for 450 to 500 in excellent condition. Could be wrong, could be higher or lower. The MK IV, series 80. was offered from 1983 to 1993. Nice gun, but nothing to write home about.

An Officers ACP is so marked on the right side of the slide under the ejection port.
The flats are polished and the contours are matte.
At least mine is like that.
I don't know what you have that is all-matte finish and not marked 1991A1 but Colt has been flip-flopping on details like that for a good many years.

It is worth precisely $400.
If it had been worth more, the vendor would certainly have charged more. I doubt he sells stuff he does not have a good idea of the value of. If it had been worth less, you would not have bought it for that.

My Officers Model has a serial number of FA21XXX, and was purchased new in 1986. I would think that yours was probably made a year or two later. My Officers Model has performed flawlessly all these years, though I tend to run lighter 185 gr. and 200 gr. loads through it, versus 230 gr. hardball. My only complaint, and one that I cannot fault the gun for, is that it's fairly heavy. Well, you might say, why didn't you buy the lightweight aluminum frame version instead? I would have if I ever had come across one; I never saw one at the time and I don't think they made that many of them compared to the all steel model. At any rate, it's a fine compact .45 ACP M1911 that should serve you well for some time to come.

Thanks to everyone for the info. I am glad to hear that I did not get ripped off and also did not rip off the vendor. I would not put it past this shop to price it wrong though. The owner knows his stuff, but the 2 guys working for him are new to guns. Once when the owner was out of town, I saw them give a guy almost 450 bucks trade for a very good condition Sig p6 (german surplus police pistol) thinking it was a US market Sig p225. The guy walked out with a nice used Kimber 1911 for only a couple hundred out of pocket. I was not in a position to say anything as there were many other customers and nobody pointed out their mistake. Dansammo.com has the same surplus p6 for $250 - 300 depending on condition. Now, if it was a real p225 it would probably be priced in the same range. The P225 and P6 are virtually the same gun but the 225 i believe is a little more solid and just costs more for some reason. At any rate, thanks for the info everyone. I love my little compact 1911 colt. It has not even jammed one time on me and I estimate that i have put 1000 rounds through it in approx 2 months. I have used cheap stuff, all weight fmj, and holow points (federal hydrashock, remington saber, winchester sxt, etc.). It is a tight, accurate little gun. I highly recommend them to anyone.
