Colt Peacemaker 22

Check out the latest addition to my Colt collection...
It's a Colt Peacemaker in 22 LR. These things are basically a 7/8 scale Single Action Army. This one was made in 1974 and has hardly been fired. It's got the "purtiest" color case hardening and blueing I've seen in a long time.

And to top it all off, my wife thinks it's cute Gotta love it when momma approves!

Did you get the magnum cylinder with it too? I bought my Peacemaker new in 1973 for $80.

I only got the 22 LR cylinder. And I paid just a little bit more than $80!!!

Nice little single action revolvers. Good find. They do have nice case hardening. You get the box and the other goodies with it?

You better go buy a lottery ticket, fast. I have the New Frontier version of your gun, and I've been looking for a Peacemaker like yours for years to go with it - rarely do I see them below $500.00.

I was actually looking for a New Frontier when I found this Peacemaker. I didn't get the box or papers, but I got it for $495. I've seen them at shows in the same condition for as much as $800, so I'm happy!

I've got a couple of these little beauties myself, including one I bought from a fellow board member with a nice set of elk antler stocks. I just need to find a buntline model to complete my collection.

Neither of mine came with the .22 Mag cylinder either

Wow, you stole it! I have the same gun with a six inch barrel, I bought new in Lubbock Texas in 1977 (I think). Isn't the action wonderful?

My uncle has the Buntline model with the extra cylinder. I don't think he's ever fired it. What's the market rate on that model these days?

I have both a Peacemaker 22 (fixed sights) and a New Frontier 22 (adjustable). They are both excellent guns, and I would love to buy more. I got the Peacemaker 22 for just $275 a couple of years back, complete with the 22LR and 22 mag cylinders. It has obviously been shot quite a bit, so the condition is nowhere near new, but it shoots just fine and is a quality piece. I bought the New Frontier 22 just two months later. It was in excellent condition but missing the box and 22 mag cylinder, and I paid $325 for it. Both were gun show finds.

Trebor, just to give you an idea, there is a Colt Buntline with both cylinders on gunbroker.com for $475.

I think I read in a for sale ad for a Peacemaker .22 sometime this year that there were only 2700 of them made. Can anyone verify this. I would love to have one because I understand they are all steel, no alloy like the Frontier Scouts. Anyone have the figures on this? Moe

My Peacemaker has an aluminum alloy grip frame, but the rest is steel.

Yes, the Peacemaker and New Frontier have a steel frame and most are color case hardened. Only the grip frame is aluminum.

The Colt Frontier Scout however has both an aluminum frame and grip frame.

My dad bought a new Buntline version with a 7" bbl to trade to his brother (near Chester, Mt) for dad's Win M62A that he had got back in 1952 and pawned off to my uncle. Uncle liked the Colt because with .22 magnums it would fire right through a fence post, so he traded dad back the Win for the Colt and then bought an identical Colt to have as a set. Well, a couple years later (1976), dad and I were checking out some guns at Great Falls Sporting goods on Central Ave and dad walked out with a new 5.5" version Peacemaker .22 rev. With holster and some bullets he paid $99. And we went off to the outskirts to fire it. It was the 1st time I had been gun shopping with my dad, and the 1st handgun I ever got to fire-I was 10. I pretty much "hogged" the little gun when we would go out for our monthly plinking outings and eventually it became mine, I fired 1000s of rounds through it and let it go for some stupid trade that I no longer recall. Fortunately my cousin still has both of his dad's Peacemaker Buntlines (1 still unfired in the box) as his dad is now gone.
