Hello,

The bead has been replaced by a higher dovetailed sight.

15gr of BP, 10gr of "semoule", crisco and cal. 0.380 balls.

2 hand-hold with rest at 25 meters, 2 cylinders, 10 shots.

the pistol use to swallow the caps and probably a stronger main spring should be necessary.

These small pockets pistols can be really accurate............

Great shooting. I dont think anyone would mind if the mfgs started putting taller front sights on the replicas. Let the traditionalsists file them down and give the shooters a break for a while. Very nice shooting is yours an original?

A few years back I heard about the practice of using corn meal between the powder and the ball but never asked why?

If you want to shoot light loads in a blackpowder revolver, you can't leave any space between the powder and ball, you need to use a filler. Not doing so may cause the gun to spontaneously disassemble itself in a manner the manufacturer would not approve of and the user would find annoying.

The pistol is a Uberti replica. It had many functional defects although very nice looking.

Barrel and frame are not totally in line so I had to move the sight notch in the hammer to the left to shoot straight. Of course the front sight needed to be raised like originals.

The barrel was not firmly engaged in the cylinder pin due to poor manufacturing. So I had to engage it further (1 or 2 mm) in the cylinder pin to get it really blocked. Hence I filed the barrel in 2 places : where it engages the frame and at the forcing cone. Moreover the wedge was now too small and was replaced by a bigger one : If you look carefully you can see that the screw (which did not move of course) now seems to be at the rear and not at the middle of the wedge.
Well, now it shoots, but at first I was getting quite desesperate.

As for "semoule" or "corn meal", it is to answer to 2 problems : First to avoid any void between ball and powder, second to ensure that balls are seated very near the forcing cone of the barrel : most of our replicas does not have the barrel and cylinders perfectly aligned and the ball has to slighly change direction in the forcing cone. The slower the ball at that moment, the less it will be damaged and the better for accuracy.
That is what I have observed with some misaligned revolvers.

I squirrel hunt with a Colt 1849 Pocket .31 with a 4 inch barrel, and that's the truth. It does the job real good, That's the truth to. You know, after all these years I'm still not sure how much powder it holds. I use one of those small 'baby flasks' and one throw per chamber seem's to be perfect, at least for Triple Seven 3fff gr. I would guess about 10 to 12 grains. I know it'll bring that squirrel (coon to) down easily, I don't care how high up in that big ol' tree they are. Just have to be real careful especially shooting at night. That little beady front sight leaves something to be desired...Okay..
