I have the chance to pick-up a NIB Colt Pocket Nine for a great price, but I don't know anything about this gun. Any help or thoughts would be very helpful in making up my mind. I would like to use it as my CCW. Thanks in advance!!

If its a good price get it ... if you find you don't like it those little guys have a serious cult following so you'll have no problem selling it (maybe even at a profit).

Colt Pocket Nine..

I've had two, still have one. And hope the thief who stole my first one has a malfunction at a really bad time. The problem with the Pocket Nine is about like anything else from Colt lately. If it works, great. If not ,then, unlike the 1911,there is a limited number of spare parts available and an even more limited number of knowledgeable ' smiths to work on them. Colt only made an extra 150 magazines for the Pocket Nine. So original Colt mags are kinda scarce. There was an outfit called Scott, McDougal and Assoc who worked on these little guns. One of the partners is still in business working on the Pocket Nine, NAA Guardian, Seecamp, etc. You can do a search and find either Scott or McDougal. They also contreacted for a run of mags from the original Colt mag supplier to make a batch of replacement mags to Colt OEM specs. I bought some and they seem to work. I wouldn't use a lot of Plus P ammo in the little Colt.

Colt had to stop production of the Pocket Nine due to a patent infringement lawsuit from Kahr.

I put my remaining Pocket Nine away and replaced the one that was stolen with a Kahr. (Actually, two Kahrs..one steel for practice, the other plastic frame for carry.)

If the P9 is still for sale, and you think the price is a bargain. I'd buy it.

If you don't want the pistol, PM me with the price and the seller. I might be interested.

salty.

The mag from a Kahr P9 is identical, except you have to cut a notch in it to match the catch in the Pocket Nine.

I got rid of mine because you can not get spare parts for them.

They are an excellent carry piece at 17 ounces.

I have one and like it, but my pockets aren't that big. When I first bought it, I couldn't find holsters for it, so I ended up making an IWB holster for it out of a milk jug and duct tape. There was an article a while back in Combat Handguns, and I think Roscoe Benson did it for pocket holsters. It was cheap and good for wearing running. Actually, it's still going after four years.

Brownells carries the SM&A magazines so you should still be able to pick them up.

Colt p9

Great carry gun. I've had mine for about 10 months and been carrying it for 6 months in an Andrews Custom Leather McDanielII IWB holster. No problems yet but spare parts may be a problem if/when there is a breakdown. Seems to be very well put together though- I've seen it refered to as the Colt Pony Pocketlite on steroids. Like Salty, if you don't buy it let us know, one of us will pick it up. Good luck!

Tarheel...Long time no see..:D
