Riddle me this : How years did S&W make the Model 27, with the pinned barrels and recessed cylinders, with the four inch barrels ?

Keep your Python, especially if you have had work done on it. If you sell it, you will be upset that you did.

the second most beautiful .357 magnum is the s&w model 27.... doubleaction showing a pic of the top strap checkering is the right thing to do.... that feature makes that revolver one of the most desireable handguns.....

Interesting responses so far ;)

If selling you might want to do so on Gunbroker auctions to get the best price you can for it. I suspect that will be at least $600 and might climb close to the $1,000 depending on the two people who want it most. (even with modifications you mention)

tasco 74; Colt's Python was the it's cream de crop; S&W's Flag Ship was The Model 27. I played off both these guns when I acquired them. The hand checkered top strap and polished blued finished was perhaps a noteworthy statement which went along the detail features this gun.

Only Two Years
Out Of 45 years with Pinned Barrels and Recessed Cylinders
1935 - 1980

Hey Double.... first I'll say thanks for the offer. I'll send you a few condoms so the next time you try and scew me it will be with protection.

For the rest of you... I'm keeping the python and no it doesn't have my F'in name engraved on it, and thanks for talking me into to keeping it.

hdgroundpounder; Sorry to hear that. Tell the truth, I only gave $400. dollars for my own 4" inch Python, and was New Unfired In The Box.

I dont regret selling guns that are too valuable to shoot. If you sell it to get a shooter then good on ya.

Double no hard feelings, ok? Used the same line on my local Harley dealer a few years ago, you're not the first. Still happy to keep it! Ended up just buying a Kahr MK9 and the collection just got bigger. Thanks all!!!!

Greg

hdgroundpounder; This is fact, I was just pulling on your leg the whole time :)

I did get said about giving my own Python, but that 15 years ago.

Hold On to your Colt !!

GunkLazy; Envy will not have a place this forum. I respectfully demand of you to lower tone with me; otherwise, prepare to face the consequences......?

Learn some forum etiquette DA.
You took a normal thread from someone else and turned in to all about you and your weird twisted verbage.
Learning the language may help us understand what you're rattling off about as well.
Talking about every other gun than what the OP is asking about and insulting that person does not help the way I feel about you.
But threaten me ??? Are you serious ? Any day little worm any day.:cuss:

If DoubleAction found some steals on Pythons for $400 then that's awesome. I always love to find steals. But the thing about steals is that they seem to be very rare. I bought a Diamondback a while back for $300 but I don't wave it in someone else's face saying that since I only paid $300 for mine then someone else's is only worth that much as well.

It sounds like DoubleAction either caught a "motivated" seller or somone who was uneducated on the value of prices. Either way, not everyone else with a Python for sale will be the same. I think that's why everyone has pretty much ignored the $300 offer he made. Nobody is taking it seriously.

As for me, I know I wouldn't argue with Gunkwazy. He knows more about Pythons (and Smiths) than anyone I've encountered.

I found a "deal" like that too. It was about $450, NIB with all papers, warranty and instructions, and it was under the counter of a sporting goods store where I bought it brand spanking new...
in the late 70's. :D

DA, you crossed a line in a bid to be humorous. But all you did was to be annoying.
Try to work on that forum etiquette thing, kay?

As far as the OP Python; it's true that it will never bring what an unmodified Python will in the same condition, so I would personally not only keep it, but I'd enjoy the heck out of it and shoot it a bunch.
Shooting it now won't change it's value, and it's nice to have one you can shoot and not feel guilty.

I bought two of my Pythons when they were brand new. The 4" that I noted above, and in 1982, I bought a brand new Python Hunter set (with scope) in the Halliburton case. I originally intended to shoot it but never got around to it, and it this point, I probably never will for obvious reasons. The tag is still hanging from the trigger guard.

But having two Pythons I don't shoot was silly, so I bought a used 6" stainless Python ("K" series which I guess is a good thing) that looks new no matter how much it's taken to the range, so that's my "shooter".

Envy will you get no place with me. Turn your off your horns on me and go back to your useless ramblings.

There was time when I collected custom made double action revolvers; but was clean out a few years ago. The reason; my Wilson Combat CBQ pistol and gear. The trade took over a week of negotiations to finally shake hands on reaching the high points. Altogether we was bringing $6,000. worth of merchandise to the table.

For my end, I was bringing three Weigand Combat revolvers and one custom Ruger 10/22 to the table.

On the end of the table was two new brand Wilson Combat CBQ pistols, 20 Wilson magazines, $700. dollars worth brand new holsters, and 1500 rds of Winchester SXT, Speer Gold Dot, Federal Premium HYDRA-SHOK, and Remington Golden Sabers. If there was anything else added I lost count.

This was the deal to end all deals at the table. I was fortunate to recover two of the revolvers, but took me some time.

My Total Investment For This Trade $1,500. dollars

In the Late '70's ? I was talking about 1994; 20 years later. I still beat your price.

So say-eth the King of useless ramblings.

We bow down to you oh great King of the Bullsh--.

"The trade took over a week of negotiations"

Why am I not surprised.

Meanwhile, I too have a blue 4" Python. It's a combination range gun/safe queen and great fun to shoot. Maybe I'll put a 2x scope or an UltraDot on a 6" one just to aggravate the traditionalists. :)

Thanks for reply John; The reason it took so long cut a deal, was that Jack Weigand had just announced his intentions to retire. Three of his custom revolvers were sitting my end of the table. One of the revolvers was The North American Hunter package, built on a S&W 629 Classic DX. I knew that I stood a poor chance of keeping the revolvers back.

To hdgroundpounder ,

I'm sorry that your thread got hijacked.

Good luck to you with your Python.
By the way, I wouldn't mind seeing some pics if you ever get the chance.
I tend to like $300 Pythons. ;)

Silly Twit; Nobody Hijacked This Thread.

Meanwhile; I hope hdgroundpounder has certainly seen through all the humor in this and decided on keeping his Colt.
