For years I have been carrying a Colt Python that I traded into...

A four inch , blued, serial number 330XX.
Any of you Colt experts have an idea of when it was made?

Thanks for the fast reply. I have been carrying this old gal around since the 1970s. Plus it sits next to the bed every night.

Nice Python Float Pilot,

What kind of holster do you carry it in? I need to get one!! Your gun shows very little holster wear considering you've carried it for 40 years, in fact it looks as new to me. I've tried all manner of holsters but they all wear the muzzle and high edges in just a couple years.

Don't get me wrong as honest wear doesn't bother me but if I could find a holster that kept my revolvers in that nice a shape I'll buy one in a heartbeat.

An old Hunter shoulder holster for years until it fell apart. I lined my old holsters with chamois skin. Then give the lining a quick silicone oil spray three or four times a year.
Now my newer (about 5 years old) shoulder holster was made in Italy with a smooth pig skin lining inside.
My belt holster is a Kirkpatrick forward-cant which is lined. I have had that for 10-15 years or so.
I clean and heavily oil all my blued shooting irons once a month since I live in a sea-salt climate. I think that helps.

I used to have an old 4 inch Colt Diamond Back (38spc) which was great for when I had to wear a suit to court. But I ran short of money one year and it was sold. Although I sold it with Pachmeyer grips so I still have a set of really nice diamond back factory grips. I wonder what those are worth?

Float,

How do you get the chamois skin inside your holsters? I will certainly try that but for the life of me I can't see how you do that.

I've tried lined holsters, silicone spray, you name it I've tried it. It seems the act of holstering, shooting and just plain carrying it deblues them and it's always bothered me with blued guns.

Heck even my stainless and nickel handguns get a form of holster wear. If you could give me the name of that Italian holster I'd appreciate it.

With the old Hunter brand shoulder holsters, I glued the chamois inside with rubber contact cement.
I might see the Italian gent who made my new holster again next month. He was in Bolzano.

I have been petty happy with my western style holsters from Kirkpatrick gun leather. They are lined with suede. But I do get some blue wear from them as well.

Those grips are semi-fossilized bone. It took me forever to get them close in shape.
