I have a reference question from a library patron who wants to know the total production numbers of Colt Pythons. He has a nickeled, 3" barrelled .357. From what I read while searching, many 3" models were alterations from the original configuration.

I'm wanting the total production of all models. Since Colt customer service is closed for MLK Jr. Day I was hoping someone here might have a quick answer.

Nobody has total production figs for all Python models.
The only known public numbers, would be for limited production Pythons such as the Snake Eyes sets, Double Diamond set, Silver snake, Buford Pusser and so forth.

The word of caution on the 3 incher is the fact that MANY that are circulating are NOT factory released guns.
They ARE Pythons and they ARE 3 inch Colt barrels, but there were NOT released from the factory as a 3" Python.
The original 4 inch & 6 inch tubes were removed and replaced by the 3 inch tube after it had left the factory. Making them NOT factory produced 3 inch Combat Pythons.
The Colt factory will confirm the status of how that Python was built and delivered from the factory for $75. This will be confirmed in a Colt letter stating all the info Colt has on that gun based on the actual serial number. When it was shipped, where it was shipped, the original barrel length & original finish as well.
