When I was an LEO in the 1970s, I carried a Colt Trooper Mk III 4 inch .357 magnum. Our state police carried the old Colt Official Police revolvers. Now, decades later, I am wanting to purchase either a Trooper 4 inch or Colt Official Police 4 inch. I hesitate to do so until I can find a reputable gunsmith who can clean, repair, and adjust their actions to ensure reliable function. I understand that there are not many left who perform the custom action jobs any more, but a good cleaning/timing/adjusting service will suffice. Who do you recommend?

When I got my Colt Detective it had a weak mainspring. I had light primer strikes. I bought a new spring from Gun Parts Corp and I took my revolver to Bolsa Gunsmithing in Westminster California. They mod’d the spring and got it running very nicely for me. I asked them if they found anything else wrong with the Gun if they had the experience to go through it and make needed repairs or adjustments snd they said “Yes”,
I do not know if they take or accept work that is sent to them. Here is their website if you’re interested.

They have done a few different jobs for me and they do good work at reasonable prices.

Frank Glenn in Phoenix worked on my Diamondback and Detective Special. He's an old retired AZ DPS Highway Patrolman and revolver smith.

I second the recommendation for Frank Glen. Did some work on an old Police Positive that locked up on me. Nice man. I paid a fair price for the work. And in my case it didn't take forever. I have the advantage of being in the same metropolitan area as he is. So I dropped it off and picked it up. I may bring it back to him to address an over rotation of the cylinder in fast double action. I just keep forgetting.

Other then Frank Glenn, the only Colt qualified pistolsmith the Colt Forum will recommend is Len Specklin at Spartan Firearms.
Glenn seems to get the most use by forum members and has a top reputation for price, turnaround, and quality of work, which is done to Colt factory standards.
He also offers Colt revolver trigger jobs to a high standard.

Len Specklin was trained at the Colt factory by a legendary Colt gunsmith.
