I'm seeing on Gunbroker Colt SAA revolvers advertised as current manufacture/NIB.

They are not being advertised as the "Cowboy" line, but as the more iconic traditional line.

I read that the "Cowboy" version has the transfer safety device and has one or two less "clicks" when cocking the action.

Does the current manufacture of the traditional SAA also have the transfer bar system with correspondingly fewer "clicks?"

No transfer bar or any other unnecessary contraptions on the SAA. The Cowboy didn't last long on the market because it was a terrible value. It was comparable to the Ruger but about twice the price.

Howdy

The Colt Cowboy was introduced in 1999 and was meant to be a more affordable revolver than the traditional Single Action Army. It was designed to compete with Ruger single action revolvers and did have a transfer bar inside, so unlike a standard SAA it was safe to carry fully loaded with a live round under the chamber. Quality was not all that great at first, the Colt Cowboy soon gained a reputation for poor quality. Colt made some improvements but the reputation for poor quality persisted. The Colt Cowboy was discontinued in 2003.

For what it's worth, I had a chance to shoot a pair at a Cowboy match years ago and they were fine.

I cannot comment on how much they cost back then compared to a Ruger, I did not buy one, only had a chance to shoot them once, and the pair I tried performed fine with no problems.

Paul7, that's beyond ridiculous. It's borderline stupid.

Dave

It's just the name and pony, I haven't handled one but from what I hear they're no better than an Italian clone. Same question as to why does a Colt Boa get crazy money?

Gun companies have a problem with SAAs, as traditional ones are a long way from stupid proof.
But transfer bars and such don't please hardcore fans as much as they do the legal department.
Frankly, this is the first I've heard about the Cowboy. Colt always gets in trouble doing something new.... ;)
