I just saw this ad. on facebook The gun is located about 15 minutes from my house. there is no other info about it except what is in the pic. Is this a good price assuming the gun is in good condition?
Appears to be a mix and match sort of gun, given the stainless slide with the blued frame and a number of aftermarket parts assembled by some unknown person. You can buy a new Colt Model 01991 from Bud's Gun Shop for $714. Personally I would pass on this, especially at that price.
It's a parts gun built to look like the old Combat Elite.
A parts gun, be the frame and slide genuine Colt or not, is only worth the sum of the parts which in this case would be no more than about $500 tops.
Any rebuild work I ever did on any gun ALWAYS had the original parts returned to the owner.
These original parts should ALWAYS accompany the firearm when sold.
If they are not included the gun, regardless of manufacture, becomes no more than a parts gun.
Though it says factory rear sight - neither photo let's us know that they have not been damaged or modified, almost deliberately given the photo cropping.
The replaced parts represent the first tier of DIY "customization" with all that that implies.
Having no real cache - I would look to get into this particular gun for a number starting with a 5 assuming it to be a collection of running components only.
I don't know the guy, haven't seen this particular gun and have no axes to grind... or polish but, I have seen this gun's "twin" dozens (scores?) of times and nearly every one dissappointed.
Not sure the OP was looking only for a Series 70 Model, just that he was seeking info on whether or not this particular Series 70 gun was a good buy or not.
