Colt Sporter .223 -- Will it shoot 5.56 surplus?

I just came into posession of an old Colt Sporter Competition HBAR in .223 -- but all I have for ammo is surplus Lake City 5.56

Is it okay to shoot in this rifle? The barrel says 556... but I don't know about chamber specs, if any?

Advice is appreciated.

If your barrel is marked 5.56 then it is chambered for the 5.56. Mine is the same way.

Oh yea nooooo problem. I would however stay away from a large diet of ss109 in the older colt.

It can fire both, and very accurately.
