Colt Trooper MKIII opinions?

Thanks Big Power. I’m skittish about both 8” barrels and .22WMR in handguns so I’ll have to let that one go.

@NIGHTLORD40K, your logic is flawless and I’ll see if Jack First has any triggers, and maybe a hammer while I am at it. I do intend to shoot this a fair amount so that’s prudent.

I have a 4” S&W pre-18 and a Colt King Cobra .22 6” so I don’t really need a Trooper .22, but having a 6” Trooper .22LR definitely makes sense. Ok, if someone gave me a 4”, I’d be ok with that, I guess. :)

No worries. I wasn't much of a fan of it myself. 22lr, I probably would have put it in the safe by now. The drag is the 22 versions of these seem to go for a bit more. They are a rarity, some more than others as I've been learning, but I picked up a couple nice Ruger 22s for what he's got on that.
I think I paid around $150 for the trigger at Jack First. When I posted mine when I got it last yr, Nightlord made that suggestion. Like he, dfaris, and others say, Colt does not make parts nor do they service them. I knew I'd be shooting mine, so I'd rather be safe and grab one then possibly not getting one if I needed it. A little insurance so to speak

The only Mark III hammers I saw broken were dropped and the spur broke off.
A nephew by marriage was a cop for a couple of years and dropped his issued Mark III Trooper getting out of the car and broke the spur.
He continued carrying it for the remaining years he was on the force.

The triggers did seem to be a weak point, but I heard of more broken triggers then I ever actually saw.

Thanks everyone! I think I know what you mean about the grip. When I pick mine up, it doesn’t feel totally natural. But then when I take a firing grip and wrap my support hand around it and take aim, it feels great. I changed all my Python grips but I think I’ll keep the stock grips on the Trooper.

That’s a lovely trio, JBT! Nice to see the Trooper shooting so well with Armscor FMJ. I’m glad mine too shoots .38s just as well as .357s.
I wrote an article comparing the Colt, S&W and Ruger.

I didn’t play with it. Prolly will be gone by next visit and I can’t go till next weekend. Promise it will be gone
So I’m at the gun store right now looking at this trooper. It’s an original trooper 38 special gun it has been refinished but it absolutely is gorgeous. It looks brand new and it’s tight as a drum. The stocks are beautiful. I believe it’s got a box but not the original box they want 595. I don’t know if I should go back in and buy it or not.

Thats a good price. The .38s are a bit rare. Id do it! 😁

If the frame window is the same, you might be able to pick up a spare .357 cylinder and have a convertible too.

I mean this thing is mint. If he didn’t tell me it was refinished at some point I would not have known and could easily pass it off as like new barely fired.

Had one sadly it was the worst gun I ever owned Colt had it more than me I finally sold it to a guy that was a Colt fanatic for a $100.00 more than I paid for it. It was the first and last Colt I ever owned and I have never looked back.

I didn’t take pics. I’ll take them next time if still there. Just imagine a “brand new” trooper. That’s what it looks like Probably should have bought it but I just got a 67-6 that is an absolute tack driver
One peculiar quirk of the original issue Troopers is that the end of the muzzle was left "in the white." Although a knowledgeable refinisher could do the same, it can be a clue as to its originality.
