I have been looking for a revolver (.357) and saw a Colt Trooper with what looks like a 4 inch barrel...The piece was blued....I am not familiar with varient of Colt...how does it compare to the Python....It looked to be in VG shape and the asking price was $248.00...

Colt

Colt also made a Trooper MK-V .357 magnum. available
in 4" or 6" barrel length's and with the stainless looking
satin "Colt-Guard" finish. A very desirable piece for any
serious Colt collector's; as they were only made for a
very short time!

I still believe that the Trooper line is one of the most under appreciated revolver lines available. Made the mistake of selling a Mk II about 15 years ago. Felt much better when I picked up a Mk IIII that was every bit as good if not better. I won't make the same mistake twice.

I had two Mark III Troopers. One was a fixer-upper I sold for a profit; the other stayed with my ex-wife when we went our separate ways.

Neither was a Python, but the one I bought new was a rock-solid revolver and extremely accurate. It wasn't quite as well finished as a Python, but was better finished than my Smith & Wesson model 27-2.

$248 isn't a bad price at all—and the original Trooper shared guts with the Python.

The Trooper was my first handgun. It shot out of time rather quickly. If I had my choice now I'd go with the Ruger SP101.

just recently picked up a Trooper, Mk III, 4", blue, LNIB for 320 out the door and was well pleased with my purchase and the price. only thing i have not liked about them is, to me, that big fat grip. that is easily remedied.

If grips are original wood make sure you hang on to em. They are hard to find and worth some $$. I have a Trooper III 6" nickle which is like new, paid $360 about 6 month ago. Went gun shoppin yesterday and saw a 99.9% blue Trooper for $495!!. Next store had Trooper III nickle 6" for $450, and a blue Trooper III 4" for $400. I probabley coulda got blue one for $350, but then I spotted mod 15 S&W for $225. That one is almost new and went home with me. Both stores told me they had lotsa guns and told me economy was bad and people were sellin to them. Yet prices were not that great on used guns. Colt prices are way up.

I have a Trooper III, bought it from a friend who has a ton of colts and just didn't need another one. Got it from a relative who had just died. $225 and it had only been fired once from what I could tell. Wife won't let me sell it, she loves it. Nice .357!
