I was wondering if the grip frames on 1851 Navy/1860 Army/Single Action Army are interchangeable. I think it would be cool if you could add a birds head grip to a cap n ball revolver, or be able to use those detachable skeleton stocks that were originally made for SAA's.

Actually I was really interested in buying a stock from an Uberti 1873 Carbine (picture below) and putting it on my 1851 Navy. I noticed that on some websites they list the brass grip frame on both the 1851 navy and Cattleman SAA as being the exact same thing, so I figure since the Cattleman SAA and 1873 Carbine are basically the same thing, the 1873 Carbine stock should fit on an 1851 navy, right? Even if it did fit, would there be a problem with the mainspring not functioning properly?

The frames where the grips attach are the same on all those guns, and are all interchangeble. The mainspring on the revolver carbine stock is completely different, however. Another option is the detacheable carbine breech. This one fits both Army and Navy, but my Single Action Armies are not cut for the detacheable stock:

saaman spent a lot of time fixing c&b and saa revolvers for the local living hisory gunfighter group as well as a bunch of organized black powder shooters. He did this at a time when the replica parts were made out of steel the consistency of molded cheese. He supplied the major smarts for this book:
