Humm....

U.S Quarter weighs .20 ounces

6.5 ounces / .20 = 32.5 quarters...yeah I can see how that would make a difference at the end of the day.

The real deciding factor is how much you shoot it/how much you carry it.

Shoot it often, go with steel. So much more pleasant.
If you carry it daily and shoot it infrequently, you will appreciate the alloy.

If you want to compare the weight you are carrying, don't forget to factor in a loaded magazine. The relative difference when you do that is not that dramatic on the hip; it looks more dramatic on paper when compare empty weights.

A better way to look at it is, how many quarters are you carrying with a loaded alloy vs. a loaded Combat? I'm not trying to tell you one is better, but to think of it in the big picture.

If weight is that critical perhaps a different model would be prudent or an examination of the differences between the two.

Weight of course favors the lightweight. The main difference as I see it is the ability to more readily correct any factory inadequacies with feed ramp geometry and of course the ability of the steel frame to better resist damage. With proper care and assuming a good example to start with, either should provide a lifetime of service with regular maintenance.

Both steel and alloy framed pistols feel great in my hand with the Combat Commander being better suited for extended range sessions while the Lightweight Commander is my choice for CCW.
