I've been looking for a rifle for deer for a while. The other day, I found this from H&R, it's got a barrel for 44 mag, and a rifled barrel for 12-ga. http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Combos/handislug.asp
My question is, about how far away can I reliably (for this caliber-it's a 44 mag) take down a deer, of about 150 lbs or so.
Thanks, John

The .44 Mag zeroed for 100 yards will be 8 to 10 inches low at 150 yards (depending on actual velocity from your rifle.) I would zero at 100 yards, and shoot it at ranges of 50, 125, 150, and 175 to learn exactly where it shoots.

I would consider it generally limited to under 150 yards -- depending on the shooter's knowledge of his rifle.
