"Comical Ali" captured

01:45, Jun 25 2003

LONDON (Reuters) - The Daily Mirror says U.S. troops have arrested Iraq's information minister under Saddam Hussein, MohammedSaeed al-Sahaf, at a roadblocks in a Baghdad suburb.

There was no immediate reaction from Washington on Wednesday.

The ex-minister, dubbed "Comical Ali" for proclaiming the defeat of U.S. forces even as they moved into Baghdad, had been hiding out at arelative's house watching satellite TV, but was caught on Monday night, the paper said in a report from Baghdad.

"He has some serious talking to do...this time," a "senior coalition source" was quoted as saying. There was no independent confirmation ofthe story and no other sourcing.

The real question: What was his initial reaction to being taken into custody?

"My capture - which did not occur - was a great defeat for the infidel dogs."

Baghdad Bob has already signed with CNN to co-star with Jason Blair (of NY Times fame) in a new comedy news program to be hosted Sundays at 8pm.

He will be rich beyond measure.

Spokesman for the DNC is quite logical.

He could make serious bucks as a Manager in the WWE.

He already has an action figure doll in his image.

I know!! Hillary Clinton's press secretary. Yea, that's the ticket.

CNN reported Baghdad Bob has just accepted the surrender of all US forces. He will be conducting interviews personally with Intelligence officials.

Any bets as to whose talk show he is on first, Leno or Letterman?

"Baghdad" Bob would be perfect as an anchor on the comedy channel. :D

I think they should give him Dan Rather's job. They are both experts at spreading false information, but at least Baghdad Bob is entertaining while doing it. I might even watch the CBS Evening News for the first time in 20 years if they did.

In spite of his inadvertent humor, he was a pretty nasty fellow. IIRC, he goes WAY back with Saddam, to the days when Saddam was an emerging power on the street. He was well known for slapping his underlings around if they said the wrong thing to the western press. And, if any of the famous "press handlers" did something wrong, it would be "comical" Ali who would order their torture, or the death of their family, or worse. He should probably do his last jokes on the way to the gas chamber.
