This week end while at the range I noticed the barrel on the missus rifle aint sitting one the forearm like it used to. She has a Savage 111 in 30/06.Feller I work with has one like it so today at chow we looked at his and its doing the same thing. Now is it me or are the stocks on theses rifles bedded right. When it comes to rifles all I really know about is the M16A2,M16A4,M4,SKS,AK-47,and Dragonuv in other words the ones that I might use or might get used on me.

I can't speak from experience, but ...

last week at the range, we were discussing a Savage. Bottom line was that they shoot great but the stocks are "mushy". So it sounds like you would agree with that.

But the fellow that owned the Savage said he didn't have the problem and if he did he would send it to Savage to get made right.

Yep, tis English, The forend sound like it is warping away from the barrel. Might be a time to watch it and see if it warps and starts to put pressure on the barrel. Other than that it seems like a free float and I am not sure if Savage would swap stocks for you. Is it real humid where you are right now, if it is that coul be your problem and it will not be a problem unless it warps up not down. give the manufacturer a call and see what they might do, if nothing then wait until this winter and it drys out and warps back. then take the action out of the stock and seal it real well with a good wood finish.

Yea it is humid but the stock is composite rather than wood. Would that make a difference.

The composite Savage stocks are known (notorious) for being mushy/bendy/twisty. They are, in a word, cheap.

I don't know how that will affect your rifle long term, but if you are concerned buy a good replacement.

FYI, the Savage rifles have free floated barrels.

Well then replacement it is. But who makes a quality replacement stoke for it.
