Comp-Tac MTAC Fitting (Now with instructions...)

I just got the Comp-Tac MTAC holster for my Glock 22. However once the gun and holster is inside the waistband it takes me a few seconds and some considerable effort to get the gun from the holster. The screws holding the kadex outer is as loose as I can get them without the screws falling out.

I am at the point of replacing the outer with my own custom leather. It is a shame for the holster that costs $85 and the shipping to South Africa was not cheap.

Any suggestions from people using this holster.

As the leather breaks in from wear the fit will loosen up and you can tighten the screws a couple twists more. That being said, I had to have the screws just barely threaded and locked in place with lock-tite so they wouldn't back out.

In my experience I could see how you might get a tight fitting one. Wear it non stop for a couple days and see if it is better. Otherwise, kindly see if Comp-Tac will send you a replacement shell for free on their dime.

I though the Comp-Tac was hand fitted and each holster is custom fitted for each gun model before they are sent off.

I think I am going to sell it and rather make my own from leather.

Don't think thay are goin to send a replacement. The shipping here was $100.

Thanks for the reply though.

How low do you have the pistol riding? I've seen a lot of pictures from guys that really bury their MTAC and CTAC holsters deep in their pants making it difficult to get a grip on the pistol.

Actually quite high. I tried lower and higher no change.

Everyone like these holsters. I probably just got a lemon. Well lesson learned and $100 lost. I can not sell something that does not work. Should make a nice target though. the question is shotgun or 30-06?

BUT

How does a "Each holster tested before it is sent" give me a lemon.

I have contacted them no reply so far.

Before blasting away at it, maybe try adjusting it yourself. If you have a heat gun, it should be fairly easy. A hair dryer will work too, it will just take longer. The dimple that goes into the trigger guard is probably too large and grabbing way too much. Try to heat just that area just enough to make it soften (go slow) and then draw and re-holster the gun repeatedly while it cools. The soft stage of Kydex is way higher than the melting point of the gun's frame, so you won't hurt your gun.

Thanks for the idea. I have thought about just cutting that out alltogether.
I do not have a heatgun at the moment, but I can get one though. I shall give it a try.

I will probably end up making my own leather outer. I am not a big Kadex fan in any case. To noisy and mars the gun with the slightest bit of dirt present. I do not mind normal wear on a gun, but scratches that could be avoided does upset me a bit.

OK I think I got the solution for Comp-Tac fitting.

1. I wetted the leather backing just a LITTLE. just springkle some water on the rear of the leather backing, the side that is against your body.
Then I made sure the setting crews were as loose as I could get them.
I wore the holster like that for a few hours so the heat and moisture could get into the leather backing. You can't really see any change in the leather backing's shape, but something has changed. It might be that the leather backing has a slight natural curve now.

2. When I draw the handgun from the holster I put my thumb on the top of the leather backing and push down while I draw the weapon. Then it comes out a lot easier.

The holster is at least useable now, but I would like the draw to be a bit smoother though. I still think that the dimple that clips over the front of the trigger guard is to big. I will work on that a bit with a heat gun as JustSomeDude recommended.

Maybe this helps someone else.

I've had one for a Glock 26 for about two years now. Mine was stiff and tight when it was new also. Once the leather backing starts to form to the gun, that all changes. You see how there is a place where the leather backing is only one layer thick? Your gun will sink into that with a little wear.

I have to tighten mine for the third time now (no the screws are not backing out) because the pistol is getting loose again.

Just wear it, it does not take long for things to improve.

Try Bick 4 leather conditioner to soften things up a little quicker. Bick is great on anything leather.
