Compatibility questions: Maverick 88 options

Hello,

My girlfriend owns a Maverick 88 (18.5" barrel). The plastic forend has developed a nasty crack, which (despite my aluminum+epoxy repair attempt) will likely eventually be useless. So, I'm looking at replacement options.

To make things simple: Is the 18.5" Maverick 88 compatible with (1) a 6.75" Mossberg 500 Action Slide AND (2) a Magpul Mossberg forend?

A Maverick 88 is an M500. You can buy her a whole new stock for $84.95 if you want.

In order to use any mossberg forend, I have to get the action slide assembly. I think I've found that the Mossberg 590 (which is what the magpul forend is designed for) has a 7.75" action slide assembly, and the Magpul forend will only work with that longer action slide, not the shorter 6.75" action slide.

So, I'm thinking I need a 7.75" action slide, and the Magpul forend.

Leaving this for the Mossberg clan to answer definitively, but it sounds as if you are on the right track. Is the forearm on this gun molded around the action bars, or is it mounted on a forearm tube?

There are adapters that will allow you to use either length forend on the short tube. If the new forend is especially tight it sometimes requires removing some material, but otherwise it drops right in.

The Maverick and Mossberg action slides are interchangeable. In fact, there are more than a few 88s that came from the factory with the 500 tube and some 500s have shipped with the 88 tube installed.

The forearm is pinned directly to the bars, which is why its such a pain to replace. A new forend and action slide is required... it is just confusing to me as to what is compatible.

To add some difficulty, some people say the hogue tube extension (for 6.75" tubes) is not compatible with the Magpul forend. Ugh.

You need the 7 5/8" action tube and its action tube nut to fit the MOE forend.
You also did not mention what guage the gun is and this is important since the Magpul ONLY fits 12 guage guns.
