I would like to get into some sort of competition shooting, I live in Virginia Beach, VA.

Does anyone shoot in competition anywhere near me?

Thanks for any help!

True, I will be more specific,

I have a .45 pistol, 12 gauge, and soon a 5.56 rifle, I am not sure what I am looking to do, although I have heard of 3-gun competitions that sound interesting, there just does not seem to by anything around here

If you want to shoot with the big dogs. <grin> Quantico holds a 1,000 yard match for us twice a year.

5.56

PM me, there is a wealth of shooting here depending on how far you want to drive. The easiest place to start would be at Norfolk County IDPA www.ncrr.net 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month.

I think the bowling pin thing is more what I am looking to start out doing

And Navy Joe..do I have to be a member of the Norfolk county shooting club to compete?

I'm in the VA Bch area. I went to a practical shooting competition once, just to watch, at Blackwater. Do a google for Blackwater Practical Shooting Association or Club. Great facility! I don't know how often they get together. Let me know which shooting clubs/associations you like. I'm interested in seeing what I can do as well. Thinking about getting either a Sig 226 or Glock G34 in 9mm for competing.

Okay, several people looking, so here it is.

The easiest and closest is Norfolk County IDPA www.ncrr.net 2nd and 4th Thursday, not required to be a member, $10 gets you shooting. If you have a gun, holster, 3 mags you can do this. The IDPA bunch also does a tactical shotgun fun match out back about every month or so. The club also offers trap and skeet, as well as bullseye, don't know so much about those.

Blackwater IPSC is also close by in Moyock,NC. get on the USPSA website and e-mail the match director ahead of time if you want to go. We are Blackwater's guests, they like security and if your name is not on the list at their front gate you are not getting down the 5 mile road to the match. Period. Other than that, great time. I used to be a member, I don't get down there now due to life being busy.

Also for IPSC there is Black Creek, Fredricksburg, and Sir Walter Raliegh gun club within 3 hours drive. Sir walter is in Creedmoor, NC and the have cowboy, bullseye, Highpower, and more, I just go for the IPSC. great club.

USPSA at black creek no more ....

As an FYI, the IPSC/USPSA match at black creek got cancelled a year or so back when the MD moved. No one stepped up to run it, so the 3 gun match took it's spot (Last Sat of the month). Runs a pretty good match, lots of fun.

Same club shoots a large IDPA match on the Second Sat of the month. But I'd suggest the NCRR match first to see how you like it as yours would be quite a haul. Last several matches have run 125+ rounds, so it's not a smallish match.
