Conceal carry without holster

I used to carry without a holster every once and a while. Then I realized how fantastic having a holster all the time really is. Now I have an extra universal IWB holster in each car to make sure I'm never without one (in case I carry a "car gun" for the day and decide I need to carry). The benefits of using a PROPER holster far outweigh whatever conceived benefits of not having one.

I can carry .357 SW wheelies and Beretta 92's just fine without holsters IWB. They are nice and fat, while at the same time have enough un-recessed parts to hold themselves up. Not very comfortable when moving around, sitting, standing, etc. though.

Yeah, post #56 sums it up for me.

I've stuck mine in my waistline while running out to the truck to forget something. Even with jeans and a good belt, it doesn't seem to bode well for strenuous physical activity. You never know when someone will physically attack you and force you to get in a scuffle or when you'll have run, jump or dive for cover...or even just move quickly and cause it to slip in your pants.

To each his own, but I'll keep mine in a holster that covers that boom switch.

Pocket carry is one thing, Plaxico carry is another.

Criminals and overpaid athletes who take blows to the head for a living carry that way. Are you a criminal or overpaid athlete?

Another vote for the ClipDraw. Have a universal on an SP101. I'd not tuck a gun in my waistband without some kind of clip or holster. The ClipDraw is as "minimalist" as I go.

I carry all the time -- usually an M1911 (although I sometimes carry a Colt DS.)

I start my day with a 5-mile hike up the mountain for exercise, and come home drenched with sweat. If I carried without a holster, my gun would be drenched, too. I designed my holster specifically to protect the gun in situations like this (and to protect my hide from the gun digging in.) I sweat-proof the leather backing with Sno-Seal or a similar product.

This holster can be carried as an OWB, a conventional IWB or a tuckable. It is shown set up as a tuckable.

If anyone is familiar with ScotteVest products then u know they make alot of causal clothes and outerwear that have lots and lots of hidden pockets. I am going to buy one of thier 13 pocket microfleece hoodies this fall. and see if a j frame or keltec will work out inside one of the interior hidden pockets.

Never.

I have IWB holsters for every gun I carry, with the exception of my S&W Model 36, which I carry in a pocket holster I made.

Most of the negligent discharges you hear about, especially with sports figures, involve "Mexican carry". I try to see the stupid things that other people do and do something DIFFERENT.

In Ohio, you can carry without a holster all day long... until you get in a vehicle. If your firearm is on your body, it HAS to be in a holster when in a vehicle.

If I'm going to spend $400+ on a handgun, I see no reason to not spend $30-50 for a serviceable holster, or better yet, make one to my own specifications.

With the exception of hunting, I've been carrying IWB condition 3 for 29 years. For hunting I use large caliber revolvers in a holster. My carry choice for the last 15 yrs or so has been a Colt compact 1911, 45ACP. I have tested this setup by jogging and exercising without noticeable movement.

FWIW
