I'm new to concealed carry. I'm getting a glock 21 within the next couple days. What in your opinion is the best holster/ way to conceal a big sucker like that? Tia

It depends on what you will be wearing as a cover garment. If it is something like a suit, sport coat, long-tailed vest or even a long tailed, untucked shirt, you can carry in a high-riding, OWB (outside the waistband) belt holster. To give you some idea of what to look for, here are a couple from Galco. Galco Concealable Galco Combat Master Normally, my favorite belt holsters are IWB (inside the waistband), as only the butt of the gun is exposed above the waistline, making concealment easier. However, with this gun's blocky and thick slide, such carry is likely to be uncomfortable. You will also have to purchase new pants with an extra inch or so in the waistband (an example of "dressing around the gun").

If you have a thicker and sturdier belt, you can get away with an IWB holster worn between the belt and pants. The belt helps "soften" the bulge on your hip, though you will need a longer untucked shirt or jacket, as the bottom is not obscured by the pants. My carry pieces are not as big, but that's how I carry 'em.

That's a very ambitious gun to CCW. Good luck.

IMO rather than spending money on holsters that will ultimately fail and leave you wanting or leaving the G21 home, spend $500 on a smaller G23 and $100 on a good holster for it. Live through others' mistakes and save your coin.

leadcounsel is right. The G21 is BIG gun, the best way to conceal it is to get one similar but smaller. If it's got o be a .45 and a Glock look at the G30.

Ditto to leadcounsel.

Eons ago, when I was a cop, I carried a Browning HP 'cause it was smaller than the S&W service revolvers we carried then. Carrying a big piece of metal around concealed all day is a big pain in the butt (literally).

Best thing to happen are the small, flat, inexpensive 380s (e.g., Ruger's LCP or S&W's Bodyguard) that can be comfortably carried in a pocket.

I carried the G21SF concealed for a couple of years. The main thing is to dress around it. I used a Galco Summer Comfort IWB for a while. I was never really satisfied with it. The "rough in" leather would make drawing the G21 harder. The "rough in" also left leather fibers all over the front sight.

I got a Blade-tech IWB to replace the Summer Comfort. I like the Blade-tech a lot more than the Summer Comfort. It doesn't collapse down after the pistol is drawn. Drawing and reholstering is smooth. It doesn't soak up moisture/sweat.

I would normally wear an untucked button up shirt to cover the G21. It worked well, but in the summer heat, you won't be as comfortable. I am a Fan of the 5.11 button up shirts, especially the lightweight summer ones.
I have a Galco Miami Classic shoulder holster for my G21 as well. It is nice, especially if your going to be couped up in a car for long periods of time. It is also much cooler and more comfortable during the summer time, but you will still require a cover garment.

The Glock 30 or Glock 36 may be a better alternative for CCW if the G21 doesn't pan out.

I have a Raven Concealment Phantom for my 1911. Here is a link for the Glock version.

I bought it very early in my search for holsters. It gives me an opportunity to wear it inside the waistband (IWB) or outside the waistband (OWB) just by changing the attachment hardware. You can also adjust the ride height or cant by moving the attachments up/down.

Buying this one holster has allowed me to experiment with different ways of carrying the 1911 to see what I like or even if I can consider carrying the 1911 at all.

Whatever holster you do get, make sure you do get a good belt.

That's an awful big gun to conceal. I think you'll find that you will end up with a smaller one eventually. I tried carrying a larger framed autoloader for a while and went back to my .38 5 shot airweight. I can (and have) carried that all day long and it never even phases you. The more it bothers you to carry it, the more attention it will gather.

A decent OWB holster on a solid gun belt. All under an untucked Hawaiian/club shirt. I prefer a 8:00 carry (lefty) behind the hip bone on the flat of my butt. Never a prob with my H&K P2000.

I sometimes carry a G20SF. I've found the best way to solve the concealment issue is to not bother concealing.

I should be getting my Alessi Talon in a few days here for my G20SF, I'll let ya know how that works.

If this is what you want to carry.... Dress around the gun. Loose untucked shirts with bold prints or a jacket depending on the local weather can hide anything.

Next a high quality gun belt. Beltman or the like is the minimum for this size and weight firearm. Look at the total load out weight for the G21 with a loaded magazine in gun and one or two spairs, knife, phone or whatever.

Holsters: Another vote for Comp-Tac, but I would suggest the CTAC or MTAC IWB. While the Glock is big and thick, IWB with proper dress for the gun can hide just about anything. I have a CTAC for a different firearm it is one of the best. Many like the MTAC. I do not own a Raven Phantom, but this is also a well reviewed holster system.

Ok so I just bought the 21 yesterday. The man who sold it to me was very good at what he did. After I bought it he asked if there was anything else I wanted so I asked about a holster. So he says we don't have any IWB and asks if this is how I normally dress. I say yes and he goes to the rack, hands me a holster and says that I want that one. Put it on and it conceals wearing just a regular large tshirt. Its a fobus gl-3. And for the price of this gun and how bad I wanted it I couldn't say no. $464 out the door for the gun new. Do you guys think I did alright for that price? Thanks for all the responses so far:)

That would be a great price in my area. About $100 below what the local gun stores are asking.

I don't own a Fobus. I have stayed away due to their reputation as an "inexpensive and you get what you pay for" holster.

i carry iwb almost exclusivly no matter what the handgun is i am carrying. blade tech, cross bread super tuck, and raven concealment all make great stuff.
