There was an empty-holster protest back in October, and they're having another one on April 21-25. I didn't participate in the October protest because, not being of age to have a CCW at the time, I felt it inappropriate for me to do so. In retrospect, I probably should have anyway...

In any case, just wanting to get the word out. And, if anyone has an old holster they don't need anymore, I could put it to good use, as I don't have one to wear in this protest. I'd just want it to be obvious to a layperson that it is a holster for a handgun, not a cell phone or PDA or whatever.

Our student rights book says the mission of the University is:
"Value basic civil rights as guaranteed by the Constitution of
the United States." AND
"Individual rights under the United States
Constitution shall not be abridged by the
University."

Then it goes on to say:"Possession or use of hazardous or dangerous
weapons or substances, including, but
not limited to firearms, explosives, fireworks,
air-, pellet-, and BB-type guns, is prohibited
on University property"

In addition to many other similar things. Very contradictory. I've always thought of finding out who writes this and ask them to either grant the rights they gurantee or take all these hypocritical statements out of the document.

I'm President of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus at East Carolina University. I believe it is truly unbelievable that our rights are stripped as far as concealed carry on campus. With that being said, we will more than likely have to stay used to it because if Obama or Hillary get in, there will be no changes.

I will also throw in that Utah allows it's students to carry on campus...with some restrictions.

Glad to see more people in support of this protest, i am under 21 and not 100% about taking part in the protest due to my age, what do you guys think? the more the merrier? or wait till im 21?

If you stay in school you will eventually turn 21 while studying there, so try to secure your right to carry on campus now. You could carry your phone in the gun holster just to be on the safe side:D

Just buy a surplus holster. Either hip or shoulder, you can get one cheap.
$5 sometimes, if you look around. You don't have to have kydex or hand tooled leather to effectively protest.

I'm also doing this protest since I recently went back to school for a criminal justice degree. I printed out the campus safety gun policy for students and have it rolled up and placed in the holster.

This is not good advice. Do not carry anything in the holster. I am pretty sure you were joking but please do not tell someone to carry anything in their empty holster during an empty holster protest.

Yep, the emptier the better. Don't want any passerby even possibly mistaking the phone in there for a small pistol. Besides, the symbolism of the empty holster is important - it's empty because we CAN'T put anything good in it.

Thanks for your holster offers, everyone, but I found a leader nearby on Facebook who'll send me one.

As for the poster debating whether or not to participate in this protest because you aren't 21 yet...DO IT! I had the same reason for not participating back in October, and I'm kicking myself for that now. You don't have to be 21 to buy a holster. And it is definitely a bad idea to carry anything in your holster at school.

I wrote a letter to the editor in which I mentioned that in Utah, students with carry permits can carry on campus, and they aren't hip-deep in blood there.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the protest.

thanks for the support and advice guys, ive already decided on a 1911 soon after i turn 21 so ill pick up a cheap holster for it to wear that week
looking forward to it now!
PS should i inform the campus admins about this protest?

The question is, after the recent shootings, including this latest with 5 dead at Northern Illinois University, (4 victims, one maniac who offed his cowardly self), will this get any positive attention? Of course, IL is one of the few states left who denies ANYONE the right to armed self defense. I wish you the best of luck.

It received positive attention after the VT shooting.

Guns on campus laws are set at the state level.

Your state could pass a law allowing carrying on campus

budiceman... I really do like that sign. I would change "in case of emergency" to "in case of madman shooter", though. But it does speak volumes.

For some reason, reverse psychology has always struck me as particularly astute when it comes to supporting RKBA. :)
