Condition "Brown"

Co-worker of mine (LEO) was recently describing how he was responding to a burglar alarm call at a rural residential home in the middle of the night. He told of getting down on his hands and knees in order to look into an open low-level window (bi-level home) with his flashlight. As he did so he narrowly averted being bit on the face by a highly irritated Rhodesian Ridgeback inhabiting the residence. He described this to me as an instant transition into "condition brown".

Put one way...

White: "I will not have to shoot anyone today."
Yellow: "I might have to shoot someone today."
Orange: "I might have to shoot him today."
Red: "I have to shoot him now."

Modifiers...

Black: "I am shooting him."
Brown: "Whadayamean someone's shooting at me? huh? yer crazy...say, what's that popping sound?"
