You better hope Kerry Healey wins...
Deval Patrick has won the Democratic nomination for governor, based on NewsCenter 5's analysis of statewide returns.

From Patrick's website:

Handguns are far too readily available to inner-city juveniles and felons. Guns sold illegally account for five out of six guns recovered in crimes. Some 60% of the guns used in crimes in Massachusetts are trafficked in from neighboring states that have much weaker gun laws. Meanwhile, our gun violence reduction initiatives, once nationally-recognized, have been allowed to erode.

I see an end to the trafficking of illegal guns into Massachusetts from neighboring and other states, through better coordination and cooperation among state, federal and local law enforcement.

Sure thing! If he's elected, first thing NH does is build a WALL ACROSS THE SOUTHERN BORDER. :fire: Most of the violent criminals arrested here recently were repeat offenders from Boston or Lowell areas, not NH residents. Then they can't accuse us of being the source "illegal guns", and we can keep out all MA's criminals they can't control!

That is so ridiculous that it is mildly amusing.

Oh, yeah, this guy will also add one-per-month limits and end private sales at shows, he says. Have fun, MA people! If he's elected, your lives shall be...hell.
* End Gang and Gun Violence. The resurgence of gang violence in Massachusetts must be stopped and will be in my administration. In addition to a renewed commitment to community policing, we will

o restore the law enforcement, public health and community-based strategies that worked in the 1990s and support the Urban Violence Reduction Initiative undertaken by several urban mayors;
o revive the coordination between state and local police and federal law enforcement throughout the region to attack illegal gun trafficking into Massachusetts at the source;
o limit gun purchases in Massachusetts to one firearm per month;
o ensure that private sellers such as those at gun shows are subjected to the same reviews and checks as licensed dealers;
o require background checks of purchasers at gun shows and from private dealers; and
o strengthen the ability of prosecutors to protect witnesses of gang violence.

I especially like the effectiveness of stopping private sellers at gun shows. Because, you know, so many street shootings and convenience-store holdups have been performed with WWII wooden battle rifles, 1898 Winchesters and other staples of private walkaround sellers. Fix bayonets, homies!

We know your tune Manedwolf:

All the problems in New Hampshire are caused by people from Mass, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Look back at your posts:

Cops in Nashua search a Walmart gunman's house? The cops must be from Mass.

Bad nightclub in Manchester? It's because people from Boston go there (like there's no clubs in Boston to go to).

Crime in NH? It's all committed by "those" people from Lowell and Lawrence.

Someone starts a post asking about pepper spray? Rather than answer the guy's question, you make it a point to jump in and post that a permit is required to buy it in Mass!

Your whining gets tiring, and those of us in the Bay State that do not fit your pet stereotype find your near-constant ranting irritating to say the least.

How would you like it if I described people from New Hampshire as a bunch of flannel shirt-wearing, toothless huckleberries that clog our roads doing 50 MPH in the left lane as they take a wide-eyed ride to Boston just so they can ride on an elevator? Would that bother you? It should, because it is a sweeping generalization that is largely untrue, and just for the record, I don't believe it.

Look Dude, USE YOUR HEAD! The Mass residents that read and post on this board are not the type of people that you describe, yet you insist on lumping us together, and insulting where we live, blaming all of your state's problems on us. Just let it go.

I'm glad that Patrick won instead of a more moderate candidate like Gabrielli. Less than 20% of the voters turned out for the primary, and contrary to what you would lead us to believe, Mass has elected the less liberal gubernatorial candidate for the last 20 years. Our last 4 governors - Weld, Cellucci, Swift, and Romney - have been Republicans. (In fact, 8 of the last 11 governors of Mass were Republicans, and the late Ed King was a Democrat in name only - switching to the Republican party as soon as he left office). Healey has a very good chance of taking this.

You can describe NH as much as you want. The fact remains the fact...NH is still in large part a libertarian state, and MA is in large part a very leftist state.

Of COURSE the people from MA who post here aren't like that. Did I say they were behind this guy? Of course not. I view gun-friendly people who live in MA like I view gun-friendly people who live in the UK. With friendship...AND pity. They're not in a free land.

Do I rip on MA itself, the state, for being overwhemingly full of blissninnies who did elect this guy in the primary as their candidate and who are intent on turning it even more into a socialist hellhole with rampant violent crime?

Damn right. It's not a personal attack. Yes, I think your state is seriously messed up. And I SERIOUSLY resent the MA government's attempts to influence in the laws in MY state to make it more like theirs. As to things like the pepper spray, I really can't understand why you aren't angry about that, too, being that any resident there still needs a FID just to carry a wimpy OC keychain!

BTW, the club in Manchester that was just shut down, Envy, due to a rash of fights, stabbings and such:

The mayor said Bari markets Envy on Massachusetts radio stations and draws heavily from the border towns of that state.

So there you go. I didn't say it.

I personally cant stand MA. I would prefer to live in NH (better shooting and boating )

You gotta come out where I live buddy. Two rivers within 1/2 mile, turkey and deer in the back yard, and plenty of places to shoot.

I've lived here too long to move. I'd rather stay and try to change things.

Pal, you go out of your way to start threads and hijack existing ones in order to spout your anti-Mass diatribes. It's kinda creepy.

I know it's semantics but Patrick wasn't "elected" to anything. He holds no public office. He won a Democratic primary - the turnout for which was heavily slanted to the left as most Republicans ran unopposed. He was no more "elected" than Arnie Arneson was "elected".

As far as violent crime goes, Mass and NH are tied in per capita murder, NH is way ahead in forcible rape, but Mass has a big lead in robbery (although I'm sure all the crimes in NH were committed by people from the Mass border towns).

Since the 2000 election, NH is politically moving, to the liberal left, and becoming anti-gun. I bet in ten years it will be just as liberal as Mass. Thanks to all the M*******s that are moving into the state to flee the socialist nightmare they created in Mass. Anyway Vermont is a much better state to live in than NH, since there are little to no gun laws and property taxes are not sky high.

Because I have a leftist haven next door and I find THAT creepy? Y'think? Or when people are blind to reality and don't realize that yes, their state IS liberal/leftist central, and get all PO'ed whenever someone points that out? State has some nice people in it. I feel sorry for them. The vast majority of the population and near all of the Boston area ARE frightening blissninny leftists. That's reality. Saying otherwise is like standing in a burning house and saying it's not on fire.

Wow, it's just like when people here refer to the People's Republic of California and such...does that bother you, too?

It's called "Calling it Like It Is"..and of the states, I think California, Illinois, and Massachusetts are the least free in terms of RKBA.

And I STARTED this thread because yes, it does bug me when when the next-door neighbor starts behaving in a way that can affect me. I'd been following this guy, and he's determined to not only make MA into a socialist hell with no gun rights, but to exert pressure on NH, ME and VT, too.

As for crime rates? I think your statistics are a bit off...especially for cities. Boston passed a shooting a day not long ago. Manchester's response to more crime was to increase police patrols in problem areas and arrest people, and a new initiative to rid the city of absentee landlords who rent to undesirable tenants. Boston's was to have a gun buyback, with _your_ taxpayer dollars paying for $200 giftcards per gun for felons (since they were already illegal) turning in broken Jennings and Lorcins. Guess which crime rate dropped?

And why do I rail on MA? Because they've started sticking their nose in MY state's business to try to influence MY RKBA. Therefore the MA government has become my enemy, and I will do what I can to discredit or otherwise ruin their efforts...and that includes telling people just how badly they're messing up.

I also know my history. And it disgusts me to see all the monuments, at Breed's Hill, at Concord, everywhere, and realize that in this place where it all happened...the current population, for the most part, is happy and complacent with things that would have had the founding fathers screaming in rage.

I lived in Massachusetts from 1982-1986 (Danvers) and 1994-2003 (Wenham then Beverly). I didn't care about politics until I went down to the Beverly Police Department one bright late summer day in 1997 to get my application for a License to Carry Firearms.

I was a Massachusetts resident during the revocation of permanent FID cards and the implimentation of Reilly's infuriating "consumer protection" regulations. I watched as Senator Kennedy refused to debate his Republican opponent or even campaign at all beyond printing up some bumper stickers, then win in a landslide. I gave money to GOAL, wrote letters to newspapers and rallied against such things as home-rule police chiefs and whatever garbage legislation the anti-gunners may have introduced for a session.

Anyway, I got fed up with all the crap and bailed out to New Hampshire. I fully admit that I gave up on the good fight and took the easy way out. However, it is nice to have representatives who actually return my letters and agree with my political views. It is nice to pay $10 for a four year carry permit, and it is very nice to see gun stores with practically every pistol on the market.

That's where I'm coming from. As for the debate in this thread, I will simply say that Massachusetts is a different state west of 495, but even to the east there are towns with excellent police chiefs who will issue Class A permits with no fuss. I would also be remiss to acknowledge the improvements made to the permit system, such as making LTCs a six-year permit and the implimentation of a review board for denied applications.

Yes. It bothers the ever-lovin' crap out of me. You can look back at my 800+ posts and find that I've not used that term (except maybe as a joke, but probably not even then). I also don't call people "blissninnies" (a term you've used extensively in this thread). Nor do I disparage NJ, IL, DC, NYC, or any other place that might have more restrictive laws than where I live, even if I think they could affect MY state (you've got to explain how this can happen by the way). I pay particular attention to what goes on in California because restrictive laws there tend to be brought up (favorably) in political debates here in Mass.

I don't rip those places on this board (even if I think it might affect MY state) because the people here that are from those places are like me, and I don't feel the need to rub salt into the wound. Your obsession is different, your posts are shrill, and you don't seem to care who you offend.

I'm not the one that's trying to affect YOUR state. It's a nice place, it's got cheap booze and cigarettes, and there's no sales tax. I don't want it to change one bit. I also didn't vote for Deval Patrick.

By the way, here's the source for my statistics: http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0004912.html
I'm not endorsing the source one way or the other, it was just the first one I clicked on when I googled "Crime Rate By State".

Please don't let this devolve into a "my state is better than your state" debate. I was just fed up, and felt the need to call you out on your ubiquitous "Massachusetts s**ks" posts. We in the Commonwealth know that our gun laws are atrocious and we don't need you to remind us of it on a constant basis. What are you trying to accomplish here? The last time I checked, Massachusetts liberals couldn't vote in New Hampshire.

I have a secret for you - When they're trying to get elected, politicians sometimes make promises that they know they can't keep. Even if Deval Patrick gets elected, it's unlikely that he can change the way we do things here, let alone have an impact on you north of the border.

Handguns are far too readily available to inner-city juveniles and felons.

mmmmkay, two questions here that this Patrick goober needs to ask himself and his fellow statists --

1. Just how and why did the term "inner-city juvenile" get such a negative connotation (and reputation)?
2. If felons are so dangerous that they can't be trusted with guns, then why should they be trusted to walk free in society in the first place???

Methinks they will find the answers to both at least a little troubling, especially the first one, at least if they're honest with themselves...

Personally, I am thrilled that Deval Patrick was nominated as the Democrat candidate for governor.

He has never before run for public office of any kind. His speeches are a vapid, mindless mess of meaningless jargon. He is radically Liberal. He wants much higher taxes in an already over-taxed state. Etc. Etc.

Kerry Healy is going to beat him in November. We will do better dealing with her and RKBA issues.

I feel the same way, but I'm concerned that come November there won't be a large enough turnout to defeat Patrick. The Deval supporters may be crazy, but they're motivated and proved they can get out the vote.

It's discouraging because I've lived in Mass on and off for my whole life and I've finally decided to get out of here. I accepted a job in NH that begins next Monday and I'll commute for a while and move once my house is sold.

If Patrick gets into the Governor's office, Mass residents can look forward to much higher taxes, drivers licenses and in-state tuition for illegal aliens and a whole new slew of anti-gun legislation that won't do a darned thing to bring down the skyrocketing crime rate.

As much as I'd like to stay and try to change the system, the majority of the people of Massachusetts have proven themselves to be mindless sheep, following whichever "leader" espouses the same old tired leftist cliches.

--------

The 2004 data (latest available as of April 2006) from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, US Dept. of Justice yield these figures for Mass. and N.H.:

Violent crime rates per 100,000:

Murder and Non-negligent Manslaughter: NH = 1.4, MA = 2.6
Forcible Rape: NH = 35.3, MA = 28
Robbery: NH = 38.5, MA = 116.4
Aggravated Assault: NH = 91.8, MA = 311.7

(NH Population = 1,299,500; MA Population = 6,416,505)

Overall violent crime rate per 100,000: NH = 167, MA = 458.8

The overall violent crime rate ranks NH as 4th safest in the nation, and MA as 33rd safest in the nation.

While NH has a higher forcible rape rate of 7.3 rapes per 100,000 population, or 26.1% higher, MA's murder and non-negligent homicide rate is 85.7% higher, MA's robbery rate is 302.3% higher, and MA's aggravated assault rate is 339.5% higher than the corresponding rates for NH.

While I'm sure NH criminals are quite capable of committing their own crimes, and don't need to subcontract such work to criminals from MA border towns, the inescapable fact remains that MA has a much higher violent crime rate than NH, as reflected in the above figures.

Hope this helps put the crime rate differences between the two states into sharper focus.

Stay sharp, and stay safe,
david.

The big worry that I have is that Mihos saps enough votes away from Healey to allow Patrick to sneak in. Most of Mihos's support will come from right of center.
