More Massachusetts gun control coming

Massachusetts gun owners had better fasten their seat belts. Suffolk County's District Attorney Dan Connelly is proposing a state law that would make possession of three or more firearms sufficient for a criminal charge of intent to distribute guns illegally.

Connelly's interview is at the end of this WCBV-TV expose of the failure of gun control laws to prevent 4,137 gun crimes annually in the state. The TV station and the state blame illegal trafficking of guns purchased legally in other states and transported into the state. The federal government also doesn't have strict enough gun control laws and there's that pesky gun show loophole too.

Remember the old saying: "Nothing succeeds like failure." There's another old saying to remember: "Gun control--not just your right, but also your left. Far left."

It's also interesting that ATF Director Sullivan, whose interview precedes Connelly's, said that there are enough federal laws and that they are adequate.

On the proverbial "bright side," that's at least a new leftist extremist approach to so-called "gun control." It's completely stupid and without foundation in American law, but it's at least slightly creative.

Is the fact that all of the crooks/gangbangers they showed happened to be of one particular ethnic group (excluding the so called dealers in Vt) lost on anyone else?

Its not a question of race but one that points out that there are HUGE social problems in certain communities in many states across the country.

As distasteful as this subject is to some its the fact....check the Uniform Crime Reports for states like Md, NJ, Mass and a host of others that demonstrate that year after year ~60% of all crime is committed by a group that comprises ~20% of the overall population (Maryland in this example).

What I'm trying to point out is that the same states that have the most onerous gun control laws and some of the highest incidence of violent crime are also states where it can be clearly demonstrated with the UCR that its the same ethnic group that is responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime....yet year after year the state goes after the red herring of Guns when they need to address the Social Problems that exist in these communities.....until those problems start to be addressed nothing is going to change.

Before someone accuses me of being racist...I'm not...I'm simply pointing out the facts based upon the UCR year after year.

Brilliant, simply brilliant. things like this almost make me want a massive SHTF incident to happen, just to finally settle the issue of whether disarming the human race and making us unprepared for certain types of catastrophes is a good idea.

that said i really wish that things would settle down a bit so we can all be free to shoot and enjoy life.

and machinist what are you talking about?

I know of several collectors in Massachusetts who have collections that literally number into the hundreds. If they were required to reduce them to three guns would the state compensate the owners for any loss? :uhoh:

I have no way of knowing for sure, but there might be enough gun owners in Suffolk County with more then 3 guns to see that this District Attorney is returned to private life in the next election.

I would think that any rural legislator that backed this would be in deep trouble...

This proposal should also make it clear what gun control advocates have in mind after they close the "gun show loophole" and require background checks that also include a #4473 form on gunshow and then other private sales. :fire:

1. How many criminals have more than 3 guns?

2. How many crooks who sell illegal guns possess 3 or more guns normally?

I think it is obvious that this isn't targeted at criminals at all.

If this thing passes (I doubt it will), expect a mass exodus of gun owners from the state. I know many will make the sacrifice of most of their collection, but I have a feeling that just as many (if not more) will find some way, any way, to leave state.

Several years ago, before getting into firearms, I moved from Massachusetts to Florida. I had read a little bit about laws in MA compared to FL before leaving and was completely dissuaded from any involvement in firearms. However, when I read about the freedom FL has compared to MA, my interest came back.

To make matters even more amusing I own three firearms now. I fully expect this number to double through 2008 too.

I'm a proud owner of a Marlin 60, XD 9mm and a Walther P22. Next on the list is a SBR/Suppressed AR-15 :)

There is plenty of room in Montana as well. And we only need a concealed carry permit for incorporated cities and towns (about 5% of the state). The majority of the towns in Montana are unincorporated.

After all, who needs more than 640KB of...
No wait, wrong forum.

After all, who needs more than 3 guns??? Right???

:banghead::barf::fire::cuss:

Must be because Mike Crapo and Larry Craig have held up and blocked his nomination as BATFE chief.

Really? Perhaps you've not been paying attention to the War On (Some) Drugs:
Richard Paey is a Florida man who was incarcerated in 2004 for drug trafficking. There was no evidence he ever distributed or intended to sell any pills, but drug laws in many states, including Florida, allow officials to prosecute for trafficking based solely on the quantity an individual possesses. Paey spent three and a half years in prison, until he was granted a full pardon by Florida Governor Charlie Crist in September of 2007.

(For the record, Paey had prescriptions for his medication. The State has actually said that "there is no 'prescription defense.'")

"All you MA gun owners feel free to move to Texas"

Do not come to OK. We have armadillos with leprosy, people eating fire ants, and tornadoes.

When will people learn that "gun control" will lead in a rebellion on the government. Win or lose it will just happen.

3 guns..what a crock of bs:fire:

I'm only 19 and my personal collection is already up to 15 guns, never mind my dad's stuff, hell were probably 20 times over that limit. I guess I'll be writing my reps (second time in 2 weeks) tomorrow during my break at school.

As soon as I graduate from Westfield State College, I am moving out of the Commonwealth of Taxachusetts (our lovely little small town, with it's corrupt, money wasting school system was nice enough to pass a 2.5 override, upping our property taxes significantly four like the 5th year in a row) This state sucks.

Property in Montana sounds like a good idea, Texas and Florida are too hot in the summer

I own more than three books, yet I'm not a bookstore nor do I have any immediate intent to distribute books.

I own more than three bicycles, does this make me a bicycle shop?

I have in the past owned more than three cars, yet I've never been a car dealership.

I own more than three pairs of socks, yet I'm not a clothing store.

The list of states to not consider moving to grows shorter and shorter.

It's not going anywhere folks. Connelly is just another grand standing pol trying to get headlines.

This kind of stuff happens every year in this state. In MA any citizens can actually submit a law. If I want to submit a law requiring everyone to wear green underpants I can do it. It doesn't mean it's going anywhere.

There are, however, many more insidious proposals in the works here and we have to be constantly on guard.
