Can someone recommend some conical bullets for my ruger old army? I see where lee makes a mold, but I don't want to cast my own.

Also I'm in need of a nipple wrench. Must I get one from ruger or can I get one elsewhere?

Ole' Dixie has finshed what was a 5 part write-up on the ROA.....covering roundballs, conicals, a 45 Colt in the Kirst cylinder. All loads where tested over the Chrony.
As far as I know, the are no conicals for the percussion cylinder on the market....we used the Lee mold.
The Ruger nipples have to have the Ruger nipple wrench. We replace all the Ruger nipples with Treso bronze nipple from Track of the Wolf.
All in all, we did not find any advantage with conicals over round balls. since both must be pure lead, in realistic hunting situations...and they impact at a different place.
Regards, James

351 Winchester, get yourself an inexpensive 3/16" nut driver. It will fit the stock Ruger nipples perfectly and is MUCH easier to use than Ruger's L-shaped wrench.

I replaced the nipples on my ROA with Tresos because number 11 caps fit them better than number 10s fit the original Ruger nipples. Can't use the nut driver to remove them however.:(

Good afternoon.

Like Ginormous mentioned I do make the 220gr. .456 Lee conical projectiles that is intended for the Ruger Old Army percussion revolvers, I personally use them in my custom Pietta NMA .44 with great results, they are heeled at the base to assist in loading & are quite accurate.

I could make some up for you if you desire.
