I always have a mental list of what sort of guns I want to purchase in the near future. Over the last year or so, it has swung between NFA items and an AR for each of my three young boys to grow into. I've made some of my NFA purchases and I'm just waiting on the paperwork at this point. As I was getting ready to move onto the AR phase, everything went to heck. I managed to order two stripped lowers in mid December, but of course, can't find any uppers.

Since I can't buy the uppers and complete the rifles, I've now decided to move some items up my list. The benefit to me is that I cant to fill out some parts of my collection that always seem to get passed over. The benefit to my LGS is that he can make a sale on what he has in stock. In turn, this allows him to stay in business, since he can only sell (and profit from) what he has in stock.

I know that some here are likely to purchase a gun only every now and then, but for those who buy several a year, maybe its time to focus less on what we can't buy and re-evaluate our purchase plans towards what the market has readily available.

After hearing that at least two LGS in the KCMO area closed in the last few weeks due to empty shelves, I am very concerned that the longer the panic lasts, the worse position we all we be in after it subsides. I realize that not every store needs or even deserves to survive or thrive. Some people simply shouldn't be in retail. But if you have a LGS that means something to you, or that is important to your community, I ask to at least consider the above.

FWIW, although I have a small connection to an indoor range, I have no personal connection to any gun store or FFL. I'm just a retail buyer.

I go out of my way to buy stuff there, I never walk out without something. Of course it's not always guns but it's fun browsing his consignment stuff. But I always at least pick up a mag or a part, or when I'm on my way over pick up a box of donuts or a pizza to leave on the counter.... It's a passive social club of like minded people that are fun to talk to.

I try to buy at my favored lgs for tw reasons. One, just for the sake of supporting a good bussiness. Two, because I'm cheap and impatiant. As long as it's not way over online prices the diff is negligable anyway when you factor s&h, plus no waiting on mail.
