A good friend of mine offered to sell me her Makarov. It was bought in unissued condition. It has 500 rounds through it. There is slight wear near the safety and the font of the grip. She's asking $175. It comes with 3 mags. What do you guys think? P.S It's Bulgarian.

Yep, I would at that price. Had one for about 5 years ~ no problems. Excellent gun in all aspects. I sold it to get something in the caliber range my department wanted??? Wish I had it back.

You won't be disappointed with the gun. You gotta post pics and a range report.

Be warned that Makarovs tend to multiply. The Bulgarian is the entry drug for most collectors. The East German follows, maybe then a Russian commercial and so on.

Definitely a good buy. A little wear will not hurt that handgun, all steal and will not jam. Great carry pistol, just bought one for my first handgun and love it.

I think anything less than $200 is a good deal on any Mak presuming it's in good condition.
They're solid pistols and chamber some of the cheapest centerfire pistol ammunition currently available.

At that price, I'd be lured instantly into owning a gun in yet another caliber, despite my best efforts to stick with the handful of "normal" ones I have on hand already (.22, 9mm, .45acp, .223, 12ga).

That sounds like a steal. (And I enjoy a bit of vicarious gloating about the advantages of a freer market system -- here, in the West, U.S. particularly, when it comes to guns -- which lets us buy such things after the collapse of the system which impoverished so many people but still made some good guns ;) ... it's a small silver lining, to get that piece of history.)

Yes grab it. With 500 rounds that makes it a great deal!

Buy. It. Now.

I haven't even heard of a Bulgie Mak for less than $225-250 in a couple of years. I love mine, it's probably the most reliable automatic pistol ever made.

There is no consider. Buy, or buy not. No, seriously, buy. That's a heck of a deal. :) I second the multiplying statement mentioned above. :neener: of course, I'm still looking for an East German Mak.

They are nice guns, all steel mine holds 7+1 I believe and it was in caliber 9mm Makarov.
Mine is from Russia and I carried it off and on for a year or two. My friend still carries one in caliber .380....accessories used to be available and quite reasonable my gun shop even carried barrels, mags, and grips along with ammo. That's a fair price for a proven pistol. I would buy if it were me.

Hey, it was field tested by the KGB and every Eastern Bloc police force in Europe... they're reliable, have a hot round, and go bang every time you pull the trigger. I'd like a dozen more of them...

Yeah, grab that gun now!

I have an East German Ernst Thaelmann and am already considering the next one. I can see them multiplying. With the East German you get fit and finish more on par with a Walther. That would be a good solid choice for your next one. My next one will be Russian.
