I'm considering refinishing a used SIG I just acquired. The finish on the frame is in pretty good shape, but the slide is showing a great deal of holster wear.

I note that several do-it-yourself coatings such as those mentioned in the subject line require good prep for a good finish - often including bead-blasting.

How does one go about bead-blasting? Will local shops do that sort of thing?

Another question: I may just do the slide, but it has night sights installed. Do I just mask over the dots? What's the drill?

Finally, I understand the baking process can be pretty foul smelling - what's the current thinking on the no-bake coatings?

Good to go w/ GunCoat

Good to go w/ GunCoat, and no cooking it!

Good price, easy to use, etc. I have read several people's posts who say they are very pleased.

When I tried moly-resin, the directions warned specifically against bead blasting. They recomended sand blasting to get a appropriately rough surface for the coating to bond to.
