Perhaps by October, to east- central Arizona. Heber,Show Low or Springerville.
I know that AZ has Constitutional Carry . But for reciprocity purposes, can I renew my Florida CCW which expires in December ,2017 or must I acquire a Arizona permit within a certain period?

Also, would any Arizonan know about the time limit in acquiring an AZ DL and license plates for a permanent move? I lived in Tucson for a year in 1960, but that was when dinosaurs still roamed the earth. :D

Your Florida permit would be fine for all states that honor Florida non-resident permits, including Arizona. While Arizona does not require a permit carry, the last time that I was there (2011), there were areas (such as Phoenix Mountains Park) that were off limits to open and concealed carry without a permit but not off limits to concealed carry with a permit. That may have changed.

If you make any trips to Colorado, you will need to have a permit from your home state.

BIG difference in humidity levels. Here you need antiperspirant; there you need Burt's Bees Lip Balm........ (Used to live out in the arid West, what a change moving to FL)

Your Florida permit is honored - we honor ALL permits, even California and the mythical New Jersey one. Gun laws have changed a LOT since you were here last, and all for the better. Become a member of Arizona Citizens Defense League, as well.
According to theory, you have 10 days to get your registration and plates changed over once you become a permanent resident, last time I checked.
May i be the first to say, welcome home. :)

Thank you very much, armoredman ,for your gracious answer and advice. In many ways, it will be like returning home.

In 1960 in Tucson as an 18 year old, I got my Social Security card,( starting with 526 :)). my first drivers license, rented my first car, ( you could do that at 18 in AZ in 1960 ) and had my first serious love affair.
Even met the then 14 year old Linda Ronstadt at a party. If we only knew! :D

So, Arizona is still special to me. And on the radio, Roy Orbison's great, Only the Lonely, was breaking out as a smash hit, a new sound, that the fine three octave singer introduced.

Also, Ike was still in the White House and Camelot was still to come. It was a simpler, yet more dangerous time, with the Berlin Wall and the Cuban Missile Crisis right around the corner.

A lot of memories since those summer nights on West Ajo Way near the Mission, listening to radio KOOL and dreaming the dreams of an 18 year old, just starting out.

You helped bring back the memories of those long ago days in wonderful Arizona. Thanks again. :)

only the lonely ,know this feeling ain't right."

To Roy and the wonderful memories he left us, a son of Vernon, Texas.

1936-1988. Rest in peace, man in black. We will not forget you.

All the info in the previous posts is correct. Just to expand a little. Yes AZ is Constitutional carry, no permit required, but obtaining an AZ CCW does have some advantages. In additional to being able to carry in many parks, a CCW holder may also carry in places that serve liquor as long as you are not consuming. Also, the CCW replaces a background check to purchase from an FFL. Armoredmans suggestion to join the Arizona Citizens Defense League (AZCDL) is a good one. They are responsible for most, if not all, of the pro-gun law changes.

As for the driver and vehicle license, I believe 10 days is correct. I don’t know what FL requires on the smog check inspections, but if your residence is over 50 miles from an AZ inspection station, your vehicle(s) is exempt and the areas you mentioned are over 50 miles.

Thank you, Twiki and NavyVet. That is very good information. I have no earned income, only pension,100% disability and Social Security, so perhaps the AZ State income tax will not be a factor.

I'm going to join the Arizona Citizens Defense League today. A good idea. And I'll retain my Unified Sportsmen of Florida membership. Also I'm definitely going to get a AZ permit. The GFSZ will be a factor.

Florida has no vehicle or smog inspections. They were abandoned in 1984. Good to know I'll be more than 50 miles away. Those inspections are a hassle.

The following information is from the AZ DMV about getting a license

You work in AZ.
This does NOT apply to seasonal farm work.
You’re a registered voter in AZ.
Your children go to an AZ school and the tuition rate reflects that of a resident.
Your business operates in AZ and operates vehicles in the state.
You have a business that uses vehicles as a transport for goods or passengers in AZ.
You live in AZ for 7 months or more during a calendar year (regardless of whether you claim AZ as your permanent residence).

You need to see which of the DL situations apply to you.

I agree about the weather. I did a lot of research before settling on the east-central part of the state. Also, in past years, my wife and I have traveled through every section of the state. So we know the terrain. She has relatives in Sierra Vista and Tucson.

I can easily handle that weather transition, and gun wise, Arizona is superior to Florida.

Only a few other states can compare to Arizona in all respects.
