Does anybody know what the actual frame materials were in the original tc contenders? I'm considering making a designated rimfire "lower" out of bar stock once I get my mill set up. For rimfire I know I could use aluminum and inlet the frame to take a steel breech face, but I would prefer to build it in the proper steel alloys, even if I don't heat treat it. Since its so simple of a design, and I have one to use for cloning purposes, it seems like a good project to get going and learn. I will certainly use aluminum on other projects to build my skillset before starting this project, but I am going to start looking for material soon. The plan is to build it to only have the rimfire firing pin, and possibly to even cut the receiving slot slightly narrower so that a centerfire barrel could never be fit to the frame, especially if I do end up using 6061.
