(I posted this in Brian Enos' forum as well)

My landlady bought her son last Christmas an AR-15 in 6.8 SPC. She got all excited when she saw my Dillon 650 a couple of months ago, and began commenting how she could make ammo for her son! (She is ~75 and he in his forties and is heading back to Iraq in a few weeks). She wants to make a bunch of rounds for him for Christmas.

I was thinking it is not that easy, but I want to give it a try, but couldn't figure out all the changes needed to convert from .45 ACP to 6.8 SPC.

I have the 650 with the case feeder and extras.

I shoot Bullseye and reload exclusively .45, maybe 15,000 rounds a year or so, so I am not a beginner reloader but know very little about rifle.

I have a two part question:
1. What are all the additional parts to I need? (new shell plate? new dies? primer assembly parts?)

2. Are there any of the components for the 6.8 SPC that could also be used with the Garand and the AR? (I have a Garand bought from Camp Perry in 30-'06, and an AR-15 in .223/5.56 and thought that I could buy the parts that were able to be also used by me)

I have the Deluxe quick change kit as well.

Thanks very much.

The hard part of the change over, for me is dealing with the priming punch, small area, big finger's. The Dillon tech will help you with the converson part list, then all you have to do is make sure the case's are trimed, and lubed, and the recipe is good for his gun. This is wear all the standered warning's, and cution's go.

Here's the list of parts I ordered from Dillon to do my 6.8 conversion:

Dillon Case Lube (8 oz. Bottle)
Stock #: 13733
Price: $8.95
x1: $8.95
Dillon Casefeed Plate Large Rifle
Stock #: 21075
Price: $37.95
x1: $37.95
XL 650 Caliber Conversion Kit
Stock #: XL 650 Caliber C
Price: $75.95
x1: $75.95
Caliber Type: 6.8 SPC - $0.00
Option Stock #: 20324

You'll also need the dies, of course.

One of the things to note about 6.8 brass is that you'll find brass with large and small primers. So make usre you'll know which brass type you'll use prior to your setup.

A good source for 6.8 stuff is: http://www.68forums.com

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. One of the guys on Brian Enos' forum also pointed me to this neat link for parts that one needs when converting calibers on a Dillon reloading machine.

I just clicked what I have (.45 ACP) and what I want (I put in .38, 30-'06, 5.56,and 6.8
SPC) and it spits out the parts that are shared and that are different.

With several calibers I prefer the "spreadsheet view"
