What parts do I need to buy to convert a USP 9mm variant 7 to variant 1 or 9?

Its easy find the LEM trigger kit for $80, but I prefer cocked and locked, I was hoping they had variant conversion kits packaged up, but if they do I can't find them on the www.hkparts.net site.

I picked this up used a today's gun show for a smoking good price that made me overlook the fact it was my least favorite trigger system.

I guess I could just use the 9mm upper on my USP 40 lower to enjoy shooting cheap ammo.

I would call HK customer service, but I am pretty sure your frame will prevent you from going to variant 1. I know it is that way with the P30 as that is what they told me. I am not 100% positive it is the same case with the USP.

According to the manual on page 9 "Due to the innovative design approach, it is possible to modify an HK USP into any one of the listed variants."

Obviously I'll need the safety control lever, the detent, and the hammer, but I'd like to know if anything else I'm not aware of that would be needed.

IMHO the variant 7 trigger ranks right up there with a Sigma

Its a bit more complicated than I thought. Mine is the older "one-piece" catch and a lot of the variant parts in the manual are "not shown" in the diagram :(

Worst case, I can use the upper on my variant 1 USP 40 when I what to shoot cheap ammo, the price was too good to pass up even though I didn't like the trigger.

Since its the one-piece catch model, seems the LEM kit is out :( accoridng to this:

Never seen variant kits for sale besides LEM.

Call HK customer service, ask for Travis, tell him exactly what you have and what you want to have and he'll tell you exactly what you need. Will be absolutely painless.

Not sure why you're looking at the LEM stuff if you want V1

If you really want to try and piece it together without calling HK, you should just need-

V1+2 detent plate if you want V1 (safe with decocker)
V5/6/9/10 detent plate (if you don't want the decock function)
safety
hammer
hammer axle

Likely need the slide plate and its spring (detent compression spring I think) if you want V1 with decocker; if you want safe only skip it.

P.S. if you do want LEM for some reason I misunderstood, again call HK you should be able to replace the catch with new part and go from there.

The "stock" variant 7 trigger makes a Sigma look nice, hence my desire of a change. I have the USP 40 & 45 in variant 1 so I figured I'd try the LEM kit before buying all the extra parts to swap variant 7 to variant 1, its a lot cheaper and gives me a gun different from the other two.

I called HK and they sent me the parts for the two piece catch and I ordered the LEM kit. Went together easy enough but while the "short" hammer spring gives a very nice DA pull it doesn't set off primers (I made some primed empty cases for testing). The "long" spring busts the caps, but the DA pull is then hardly improved. But I also noticed that with the LEM kit the hammer seems partially cocked once the slide has been cycled so its like a SA with a very long take up. Is this the way its supposed to be or did a wrong part slip into my LEM kit somehow?

If this is indeed working correctly, I'm not sure what I think of it yet, its kind of like a Glock but with no trigger safety, a very long take up for the first shot, and a very heavy double strike capability for a round that doesn't go the first time (dubious benefit).

That's the way it's supposed to be. Basically it's a single action trigger with the hammer down. The only time the heavy double action pull is used is if you have a failure to fire, then you have a second strike at the primer. When you fire you don't have to release the trigger all the way, you'll feel a reset point, then it's a shorter SA pull for the second round.
LEM is similar to Sig's DAK trigger.
