I have one of the older two piece stock cap lock "long rifles" (more like medium rifles) made in Spain ages ago. I picked it up in a yard sale for near nuthin. It had supposedly taken a few white tail ( and there were teeth on a thong on a pad that concealed the joint in the wood) but was supposedly a very inaccurate .45 caliber. Well I guess if they were using .45 patch and ball stuff and .45 buffalo ball in a .50 barrel it was a might inaccurate....... I rebuilt it and it is fun and the rebuild was my first and a real learning experience. Some one had attempted a defarb or sorts or just went crazy with the draw file and sand paper over the flat that had the data on it but as I cleaned it up it did appear to have been marked as a .50.
Looking for info on the rifle I found what appeared to be the same set up as a flinter and some stuff said they were originally sold as being convertible back and forth with a new lock plate et al and a touch hole liner to replace the drum and nipple with.
Other than Dixie (they don't) does anyone know where such locks and such might be found?
I bid on a few flinter pistols of similar look with lock plates with the same decorations but never won one as that seemed my best bet and I worse I would wind up with a "matching" though flint pistol.
Suggestions?
