So I am looking for a 9mm revolver. Not a ton of those in the price point I'd like to stay under - say under $500. But the one that caught my eye is the Ruger 357/9mm convertible. I have a single six 22lr, and really like it. I would like the stainless as opposed to the blue. Can you buy any stainless version of the 357 and just get the 9mm cylinder? there seems to be a 357/9mm in stainless, since I see people selling them, but i was having some trouble finding it on the ruger website.

Or any other recommendations regarding a 9mm in that range? Thanks!

Ruger does these in runs and sometimes as "dealer's exclusives". They claim that you need the cylinder that shipped with the gun, and they will not sell 9mm cylinders separately. I have used my 9mm cylinder on other .357 blackhawks and it works fine, but Ruger strongly advises against this. (I figure they can't be doing too awful much hand-fitting on a $400 gun--YMMV, use at your own risk, etc).

I'm not seeing a lot of stainless around right now. My pick would be stainless, 5.5 inch barrel.

That said, here are a couple in blue for just over $500 + shipping:

4 5/8' and a and a 6 1/2"

ETA:

RC and I were typing at the same time. My 5 1/2" was a dealers exclusive (probably Lipsey's) but it's been awhile. I did see another run of the 5 1/2 inch stainless within the past 2-3 years, so it might be worth waiting for.

Try using GunWatcher:

Taurus 905 - I've really only ever heard good things about this revolver. You can find them as low as $375.00

Charter Arms PITBULL 9mm - They run between $450 and $490

Alfa Proj 9231 (when they come back in stock next year)

https://www.czechpoint-usa.com/9-mm-luger

The Alfa Proj has a cylinder that is shortened to fit the 9mm cartridge, the frame is a 357 frame and the barrel is backed into the window to meet the cylinder. It is also a true 9mm barrel.

Cool. Learn something new everyday.

Ruger just came out with a LCR 9mm revolver.

The Ruger LCR is (supposedly) out in 9mm. May not be what you're looking for, but thought I'd mention it. I had a SP-101 in 9mm and I did like it, but I suspect the recoil would be a bit snappier on the LCR.

If you are OK with single action and loading one at at time you can't go wrong with the Blackhawk Convertible.

Dammit, Kentucky Gun Company had a Charter Arms 9mm PITBULL in stock, but by the time I created an account on their website the gun sold. :cuss:

Count, if I find a Pitbull 9, I'll be sure to pm you promptly.

My funds are tied up on another gun, but I still look for them.

Those dogs seem elusive this days.

I use Gunwatcher:

I find it to be very good, except for Academy - the way Academy has their website, it messes up the results but I just ignore Academy. I've told them about their website and how their lack of providing info on whether something is in stock or not creates inaccurate results for bots - but they don't care, so I ignore Academy in the results.

I run Gunwatcher every so often - that's how I discovered a S&W at Cheaper N Dirt.
