Why don't companies tap this untapped market and make tools useful for converting berdan brass to boxer.

I have seen the links how to convert brass where they make do with tools like a ball bearing, the RCBS swaging tool and a few other odds and ends but it seems like someone like RCBS could make some decent money with a tool that makes the job easier.

First of all, make a die like the RCBS swaging die but with a 308 diameter rod in the middle (and maybe supply the die with a 308/7mm/8mm/etc rods) so that they would provide a lot more strength than the swaging rod.

Then supply a drill guide that would fit into the primer pocket so you could then drill out the new flash hole.

And maybe make a tool that would slightly peen the primer pocket so that the slightly smaller boxer primers would fit better.

I would gladly pay 50 bux (or more) for tools dedicated to this process.

Would be nice to reuse my GP11 brass or 308 berdan or whatever.

Because nobody wants the liability if someone screws it up.

Plus there are different sizes of berdan primers available and just because it is .308 brass (for example) does not mean it is the same size primer.

I turn Berdan into Boxer- but it requires the intermediary step of taking the Berdan brass to the smelter for cash to buy Boxer primed brass.

Better question is why don't some company put Berdan type Primers out there for us to buy

Berdan primers used to be commonly offered, but there wasn't enough demand to make it profitable. As Evan also pointed out, there are several different sizes of Berdan primers within each range. When the companies couldn't make any profit on them, they quite making and importing them.

Hope this helps.

Better question yet is why doesn't some company put ANY kind of primers out there. ANY thing ANY kind, just something.

Well short of shotgun primers and muzzle loader caps.
