So I bought one of these things a year or so ago. They are around 130 bucks new, weigh 3.3 lbs. Pretty neat. But the more I look at it the more I think how cool it would be if converted to a low presure centerfire. I'm thinking rebarrel rather than barrel insert. I believe it has a monoblock.. would a barrel change be as easy as heating to melt the solder, remove current barrel and either thread to accept new barrel or solder new barrel in and modify the extractor to work with the new cartridge? If this can be done fairly easily, the addition of sights would make the thing great fun. Sort of a redneck rook rifle. Thoughts?

Looks like the firing pin would also have to be reduced in diameter and bushed. And maybe something like a 32sw or 25-20 would be a better cartridge.

I know it would be much cheaper to buy a handi rifle in the desired chambering. But with its petite action and 3.3lb weight, even with a heavier but shorter barrel this thing should still come in at under 5lbs. I think it would be very fun to just carry around.

Why? Cause you can?

At the end of the day a 410 slug will probably deliver a similar blow and not cost nearly as much...

Google .410 chamber inserts. Looks like you can get them in 9 mm and .22 lr, although I'm guessing accuracy might be mediocre. It's a cool little long gun, and yeah, you should do it just because you can. There's a .22 Hornet Handi rifle at the LGS for $250 and I've been sorely tempted.

From Germany, you can get full lenght barrel inserts, in several calibers. They can even be 'dialed in' to have the correct point of aim, with the existing sights.
Only disadvantage is, they cost 3-10 times the price of the gun.
