Convince me which size XD to get

I would go with the tactical of XDm. That would give you a 5 or 4.5 barrel. Personally after spending way too much money on many over the years, I have concluded I have no use for compact guns.

My theory - if you are going to go to the trouble to pack, pack a gun you can shoot well and have great confidence in. That means you need decent sight radius and a grip size that gives you excellent control during trigger break and recoil.

Worried about printing? I don't know how your state laws may read, but unless your laws require that the gun be "completely undetectable", who cares if it prints a bit? 99 out of 100 people probably wouldn't notice anyway unless you were acting conspicuous in your behavior.

I both (XD 45c and Tactical 45)...for CCW get the XD45c.

My wife carries mine (actually, I guess its hers)...I like the look and feel of the compact much better than the full size....subcompact guns are too small IMO.

I have the XD45 service and love it. I could easily conceal it with my normal clothing but with light summer clothing it would be a problem. For that I intend to get a Kel Tec PF-9 (or similar) to carry in my pocket. Of course I don't CCW because I live in Illinois...:cuss:

I own an XD40 SC, an XD45 Tactical and an XDm 9 4.5. The XD45 Tactical is a lot of weight to haul around all day, every day. I don't know how big you are or what sort of belts you wear, but I've carried my XD45 around the house just to see what it would be like and it's quite a bit of weight. I carried it in an IWB CrossBreed SuperTuck with a 1.5" web belt intended to support a holster. I'm about 5' 10" and weight about 175 lbs and, while I could conceal the gun, it was not comfortable due to both the weight and the barrel length. You're not likely to carry a gun that isn't comfortable for you and the best gun you have is the one you have WITH YOU.

Granted, a XD45C would weigh a little less and have a 1" shorter barrel. Ultimately, you probably need to try them out for yourself. Find a friend who'll let you borrow theirs to walk around the house a bit. Stand, bend, sit ... go through normal every day movements and see what you think.

Edit: I've also owned a Glock 36. While I don't like the way Glocks fit in my hand, the single-stack magazine reduced the weight. Of course, it also reduced the capacity of the magazine.

There should be a mandatory Disclosure of physical dimensions when asking about which size gun to carry. ^^

A guy who can palm a basketball is going to have different needs than someone on the other end of the Scale.

With my dimensions at 5"8 185 and no assatall I did not carry the 4" XD45 well and I wasn't that happy with the 4" XD40. When I carry a pistol now it's the XD40sc.

You have to engage the grip safety to operate the slide on an XD, correct? How hard is that to accomplish one handed when injured?
it is so natural that you will not even know that the grip safety is there. i have done alot of training at a lot of different schools and it has never been an issue at all, even under the most stressful conditions while using one handed manipulations.
