Ok, XD owners. Melikes Glocks, but I'm in the process of convincing myself I need to get an XD. Probably because I haven't bought a gun in a few months. :)

So if the G19 is the quintessential Glock, which is the XD(m) that will really wow me? I promise to put at least 300 rounds through it before I bash it on my Glock pedestal. :)

Kewl. I was hoping I'd hear that, since I only have one .45.

Now why the "M"? What difference does that make for this gun? Is it just the trigger and the grip? Or is it different in other ways?

The HS2000 in 9mm

Lots of reasons that all start with m according to SA marketing.

Match Grade barrel and mine shoots like it is a match grade barrel. You know about the interchangeable backstraps and the smallest #1 comes on the pistol. I use #2 because of larger hands. Better sights than the standard XD. When you disassemble an XDm you don't have to dry fire to remove the slide. Then there's the m for melonite coating of the slide and barrel. Mine is the all black but the duo tone looks good to if that's your thing. Prices have come down now to under $600. It really is worth your consideration.;)

Whoa. I just noticed in Rellascout's pin there's no external extractor. So I did a search and read that the XD extractor is not only internal, but it's actually fixed? Does that mean the pistol can't be loaded without a magazine by dropping one in the pipe? All my pistols can be loaded that way - if not on a regular basis, I at least know it will work in a pinch!

* Well, from what I read, it's generally considered an especially bad idea for this type of internal extractor, but the XD can, ideed, be loaded by dropping the slide on a chambered round. So it's not a deal-breaker!

The XD is a service gun (and issued by military/LEO agencies around the world).

The XDm is a "factory race gun" offered for novitiate gun-gamers (issued by nobody).

I think I would probably choose a standard model, to keep things cheap. But I guess it'll depend on what pops up in the classifieds.

It seems like everybody universally loves the XD .45, so that might be the ticket. But I have a theory that the heavier frame and the higher bore axis might make the .40 XDs recoil a bit softer than a Glock .40.

After several hundred round out of my .40 Cougar, I am starting to get used to the "rock n roll" recoil of a straight grip angle. Not that I shoot it better, but it is definitely easier to shoot for extended periods. This is one of the things that sorta piqued my curiosity about the XD.

I also noticed that despite not liking the heavier weight and taller slide, Hickok .45 shot the .40 XD's better than I've seen him shoot any of his Glocks, lol.

GLOOB -- just say no to Beavertail Safeties! If you're going to step out on the beloved Glock then do so with a FNp-45 or HK-usp.....

The fnp-40 has a 9mm conversion barrel.... so does the xdm...my next buy will be a .40 that has a 9mm conversion barrel. sw m&p, fn, glock, xdm are the more popular ones with conversions

Personally I love the FNP45 and the HK45 myself.

The USP felt too much like a 2" x 4" to me.

You need to do more research...it is pretty much accepted by, well...EVERYONE that this is a BAD IDEA. As far as I know, no reputable expert or manufacturer will recommend this. It can damage the extractor (even on Glocks!) and there's the possibility that the extractor won't get under the rim of the cartridge and fail to eject when you fire. I don't do this...I don't know anyone who does...and I wouldn't take the chance of breaking my extractor by doing it.

Well, I do it all the time, with my Glocks and with my blowbacks pistols.

The Glock extractor spring is parallel to the slide and quite long. I doubt it will fatigue from doing this. But after studying their respective designs, I do NOT make a habit of doing this, regularly, with either of my other two locked-breech pistols. They have short springs buried into the side of the slide, and they have to be slammed shut with fair bit of velocity. Still, I like to know it can be done, and have tested my pistols a few times to make sure they can withstand the occasional "abuse."

Blowback pistols don't need nearly as much extractor grip. The ones I have are sprung quite a bit softer than my locked breech pistols. And oddly enough, 2 out of 3 of them have a spring/extractor setup not unlike the Glock, using a long spring and extractor plunger setup. I have no qualms about loading these pistols this way.

The lack of the magazine-topping-decocking-safety dance is one of the many reasons I like my Glocks.

As for the FNP, that's something I've also been thinking about, oddly enough. I have a bit of trigger time on it, and IIRC, I liked it lots! But part of the reason I want to try XD is just because they are so similar in many ways. I can't imagine the beavertail safety making a bit of difference, other than hand position when trying to manually lock the slide back.

Another vote for the XD45 (I like the 5" version). The XDm has some nice features but I can shoot to the best of my personal abilities with this gun at 25 yards (which is about a 4-5" group) and I can't with any other 45 I have, including 1911. The XD45 just fits my hand the best. The XDm features weren't enough for me to justify the price difference as the XD45's are quite easy to find under 500 nowadays.

I have the xd 45 tactical (5" barrel), and love it. Shoots smooth, fits my hand perfectly. I have medium length fingers, and very thick hands, especially at the base of the thumb, palm side. And it is the most accurate semi-auto I have fired.

So, there's lots of votes for the .45 Tactical. A couple for the 9mm. One endorsement of the .40.

Any votes for the XD Tactical in .45 GAP? :)

A more serious question, due to the voting:
Does anyone swear by the XD in .45 ACP, but actually prefer the Glock in 9mm?

I've got the 9mm XDm and like it a lot. The grip safety for me is totally a non-issue. I just grab the pistol like I would any other pistol and it's good to go. I don't even know there is a grip safety there. Not sure how it becomes a problem, but I guess your mileage may vary.

Def no on the .45 GAP....not enough ammo to go around.

Ballistics on a .45acp aren't that much better than a .40 (before i get a chain reaction debate look it up before posting). The beauty of a .40 is the 9mm conversion -- 2 worldly popular calibers -- 1 gun...

Of course cool thing about a Glock .45 is the .50GI conversion!!!!!!

I prefer the glock 22 or glock 35 with a 9mm conversion. I guess you can say I like them conversions! ha ...

Either way you cannot go wrong. I'm not a gun brand basher -- and it would be ridiculous to post a negative comment towards XD(m) or Glock...they are both awesome. My preference is "say no to beavertails." I went to Bass Pro the other day to hold the XDm...didn't really fit my hand as well as my FNp .... I would definately touch one before buying...

I have owned a xd 357sig and xd 40sc. I love them both and they are great guns. Although the trigger needed work which is why I install a powder river precision trigger kit in it. Clean crisp break at about 3.5lbs. My vote would be the 40 as you can get a couple conversion barrels and within seconds have different guns. Either way you will be extremely happy with any if them.
