I recently came across a few guns that were soo awesome and I could not believe they weren't NFA or class 3 items that required the stamp. One of these was the Saiga-12 shotgun - very very cool!!! Another was the PS90 I thought that the overall short size of this would make in an NFA item, but apparently its not becuase the barrel is 16in. Another was the Kel-tec PLR16, how this is considered a handgun is beyone me but very cool anyways and it sucks that if you add a stock to it, it becomes an NFA item.

Anyway, I realized how little I do know and I wanted to start a thread to see what else is out there that some of us may not know about that is very cool and non-NFA. This is open to handguns, rifles, shotguns, etc. Links and pictures would be good!

There are tons of firearms with really nasty looks that fit into title I regs.

Guns like the PLR-16 (of which I have two and love them) are probably one of the biggest middle fingers at the NFA ever made. And of course there are AK, AR and G-3 pistols as well.

With the '94 AWB gone, cosmetics matter not, so long as the firearm is semi-auto only, closed bolt operation, .50 cal or smaller and fits into either Handgun (no stock and designed to be fired one-handed) or Long gun (26" OAL, 16" tube on rifle, 18" tube on shotgun) categories.

There are a number of semiauto beltfeds on the market that are Title I - MG42s, 1919s, MG34s, RPDs.

Folks knowledgeable about NFA rules and about these firearms will realize quickly that the longer barrels on the first two and the absence of the folding wire stock on the third indicate that these are semiauto versions of the NFA firearms.

Anyone know if that Sterling can be SBR'd? (Obviously it can be - I mean, is there some sort of folding stock that can be easily mounted to it?)

Always nice to see new-production guns in 7.62x25.

If you mean the Sterling Roger posted, it's a pistol. Adding a stock would make it an AOW, not an SBR.

I think adding a stock would make the Sterling pistol an SBR and unfortunately it would stay registered as an SBR forever regardless of whether you kept the stock on or not. Cutting the barrel down on the Sterling carbine would make it an SBR also. If you put a forward pistol grip on it I think then you would make it an AOW.

What's an AOW and does that require a stamp? Also, do you guys think that by going through the NFA process and having such an item puts you at an increased level of scrutniy from big brother?

As stated above...that would make it an SBR NOT a AOW.

Not forever. You can have guns removed from the NFA registry if they are restored to a non NFA configuration.

I've owned NFA items for years and never felt overly scrutinized by "Big Brother". The worst thing about the process is the wait. In general it just not as big a deal as most people make it out to be to own a NFA weapon. It does vary some from area to area (Some CLEO are hesitant to sign off, but there are fairly easy ways around that). Some states have restrictions that may apply, happily KY is not one of them.

The stock on the long barreled Sterling that hso posted a photo of is a folding stock. The Brits came up with a really funky mechanism for it; the buttplate collapses up and the whole assembly pivots down under the gun. I would be really easy to make an SBR Sterling by buying a 16" rifle version and just lopping the barrel off. No gas system to worry about, and not even a handguard to shorten.

Here are a couple of my non-NFA weapons that I think are pretty cool.....

IMI Uzi Model B and Model 45....(dummy barrels installed)

FN PS90.....

MKE AT-94P converted to carbine....

Thanks, techmike! Good to know.

Better not own anything if you're worried about "big brother"? If you qualify for NFA you're not the sort BB is interested in. If your the guy BB is interested in owning NFA won't make any difference (unless it increases the tin foil budget).

So would this BAR be legal in NJ? I dont see why not. I would have to probably get the CA model but it has, no flash suppressor and the 10 round mags are ok. $5,500 is alot of money but this firearm is on the top of my want list.

http://www.ohioordnanceworks.com/sem...918-rifle.html

Yes, a semi-auto BAR with 10rd mags (you can go up to 15 here) is legal in NJ since it's not banned by name, and does not have enough necessary features to be considered an "assault weapon"

And actually, you could have one with a flash suppressor because it does not have a pistol grip, folding or telescoping stock, bayonet lug, or grenade launcher. Though with the flash hider, you will probably get lots of attention as for whatever reason, misunderstanding of the law among LEO and even gun owners has made people's hearts seize with fear upon hearing flash suppressor. However, you would not be doing anything illegal.

Well Said HSO. My CLEO basically said the same thing...His thought is that a "bad guy" isn't going to go through the trouble of getting finger prints and paying $200.

For Cool NON-NFA guns I love AR-15's. They are like tinker toys or legos for men.
