Saw this on Fox. Pretty sweet seeing how hot the barrels are.

Gunner's Mate 3rd Class Geoffrey Martin, assigned to Riverine Squadron (RIVRON) 1, fires a GAU-17A gun from the bow of a riverine assault boat during live-fire battle drills. The squadron is participating in a three-day field exercise to prepare for an upcoming deployment.

i was unaware the army had Lightning laser rifles.........technology is advancing soo fast now a days.

upcoming deployment? To where I wonder? :banghead:
To where?
Anywhere and everywhere.....
The Navy deploys it's boats, ships, aircraft, etc all the time... it's what they do - train all the time 24/7

It's ALWAYS a "mission" even if the mission is "training" -

- well, at least they did when it was MY navy, lol.

San Angelo eh? Did three tours at GAFB in 77, 80, and 85

Nice. I bet when you're on one of those overgrown canoes and you're taking fire, it's nice to have a minigun or two to equalize and overpower the opposition.

I had a cousin who got burned really bad on a minigun when he was in the Army. He ended up not being able to deploy to Iraq and got to be a recruiter instead.

I'm honestly surprised how much muzzle flash there is; 7.62 NATO has very little flash at the end of even a 22" barrel, shot for shot. Guess the rate of fire kind of stacks the flash till it becomes a plume.
