I am a "Ruger No.1" kinda guy. I have taken a great deal of pride in working up MOA loads for each of them . But I have suddenly got an urge to buy a Cooper Rifle. Are they worth the cost and are they as good as they claim?

The two I had were. Fine rifles in every way, no problems, and shot better than any other rifles I have owned before or since. I would have a closet full if I could afford them.

I've got one...soon to be two.

Yes and yes.

I hate responding to threads like this because I want to keep them all to myself. :)

Retired;

Your new Cooper should come with it's confirming target, shot by the people in the Bitterroot valley. That target should have the load information also.

I picked up my eleventh Cooper Arms rifle just yesterday, an M22 Phoenix chambered in 6.5x55 Swedich Mauser (uncataloged) with 26-inch barrel. I ordered it on 08/29/2005. Here is its test target:

One complaint with Cooper rifles,,,,triggers,,not the best in the world, useable but barely....great shooters, at least the .22PPC and the .22 BR are.
By the way, awesome group with the 6.5X55 above.:)

I have had no complaints about the triggers on my Cooper Arms rifles, and have not found a reason to adjust them. My M21 MTV in .223 does this using hunting bullets:

My M21 MTV in .204 Ruger does the same (note that the target dots are not the same size):

Triggers are subjective, though.

I hate you! :)

That tag like Lunde posted is what I checked out on Cooper rifles at our local gunshow. A guy brings 10 or 15 every time, different calibers. They all have a one hole group pretty much. If the shooter had too much caffeine the hole might be slightly oblong. :neener:

The one thing about them, they are some of the most beautiful rifles I've seen, great looking wood. They are single shot, though. Just thought I'd mention that. I'm jealous as hell of those groups, too. :what: :D

Cooper does promise .5" three shot groups at 100 yds but the tiny groups on their test targets are a little misleading. They test at 50 yds indoors and figure any test target with a 1/4" group or better meets their .5" @100 standard. The targets would show slightly larger groups if fire at a true 100 yd.
This is in no way damning Cooper. They make one very fine rifle and one day when I`ve the extra $$ I`ll own one.
BTW I hear they have a new model comeing that is a repeating centerfire version, not a single shot!

It's my understanding that the range is actually slightly shorter than 50 yds at Cooper. Something like ~48 yds.

I finally had a chance to shoot my latest Cooper, the M22 Phoenix chambered in 6.5x55 SE. Check out the group it made:

Here's a photo of the rifle (taken over last weekend) and the twenty handloads (loaded over last weekend) I fired this morning:
