Copper Fouling

I have a question on copper fouling. I cleaned my guns with the Sweets and with the foamout cleaners. I scrubbed with brushes and let the chemical soak for periods of time. I still see copper in the lands of the rifling after hours of cleaning. I do know all my guns still shoot good so how important is it to get all copper out or is it even possible? All the patches show clean no more blue.My new rifle with only 75 rounds through it even after cleaning it is the same way and shoots great. This is my dilemna how do you really know you have gotten it out?

Don't worry, be happy.

I use the Breakfree foam every few months. It's gets some copper out and I don't worry about the rest.

I suspect you're causing more wear from the chemicals and scrubbing than from shooting.

Thanks that is my thoughts. I know everyone tells you to get it all out but I see no way possible to do that without ruining a gun.

Discoloration of the metal more than likely...also, the hi speed, magic copper removers will only remove so much in each attempt...if you have a 'thick' layer, it may take several tries to get it all out.

Now...As brianxxxx said, you will do more harm than good by cleaning so much...ease up Capt. Cleanbore and just shoot that puppy!
Since, as you have indicated, your bore is showing no copper green on the patches, we can assume it is squeaky clean...as you say, accuracy is great right now, so just shoot it until you start experiencing a degradation in accuracy...on a consistent basis, not merely a faint group or two, but sustained crap groups.

Then get after it with all the cleaning regime. Most barrels, especially factory barrels, will shoot their best with 'some' fouling left in the bore. So your tube doesn't have to be kept in a pristine, clean, condition.
