Richfield (MN) man shot by police
A Richfield man was hospitalized at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis on Wednesday night after being shot by police from Richfield and Bloomington, police said. The man's injuries were not life-threatening, said Bloomington Police Chief John Laux. He did not release the man's identity.
Officers were called to the man's home in the 6200 block of 13th Av. S., in Richfield about 6 p.m. because an intoxicated male was being "verbally abusive," Laux said. A short time later, Richfield police received a second call saying the occupants were leaving the home, "fearing for their safety."
Police heard gunshots inside the house before the man came out the back carrying what Laux called "long guns." The man fired a round at one of the officers, and police from Bloomington and Richfield returned fire, Laux said. Laux did not know where the man was shot and declined to say how many times he was struck.
An officer from Bloomington and one from Richfield are on paid leave while the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office investigates.
