2669BD04-B250-446B-BDD0-AA6661CA1E72.jpeg I have 24 of these loaded up. 150gr Remington Core-Lokt SP. looking for a general consensus on whether they’re safe for a tubular magazine on Marlin lever action 30-30. Never had an issue, but had a conversation with someone who said I shouldn’t.

The traditional guidance is: flat point (or flex tip) only. Those aren't, so don't use them.

Now, are you likely to have a problem? Quite unlikely. It's your gun and left hand.

Round nose are generally accepted too. Remington CoreLokt 35 Rem 200 gr are such…maybe 30-30 also. Can’t remember on my last 30-30.

As for those spritzer points, I wouldn’t but I generally agree it will be fine for 30-30 recoil.

The standing practice is rnfp or rn. Will you have an issue, likely not. Every aspect of our hobby includes risk. If you were trying a 147 fmj with a sharp tip I'd be inclined to convince you of the elevated risk, but at the end of the day, your responsible not me. I probably won't tube load those in my gun, but I am tempted to test by single loading....

Those are the 150 gr Core Lokts intended for the .308/.30-06 and NOT the .30-30. At first glance, they are too long of OAL to cycle properly, far too pointed for my preference in a tubular magazine, and will offer limited on-target expansion if used for game.
Exactly. Designed for a faster cartridge. May not expand like they should at 30-30 velocities.
30-30 bullets are flat or round nosed and designed to work at lower velocity.

Hornady makes a 135 grain 0.308" FTX with the flex tip. I'm assuming these will work well in 30-30. Would be a good bullet weight to get some velocity out of that cartridge. Optics Planet has a couple boxes left in stock. Not THAT pricey for specialty hunting bullets at $38.99/100.

A quick search, and this is the first link. Seems they are designed for a 300 BO or 7.62x39? Cannelure seems to be in the wrong place for a 30-30, and seating them there makes them too long to cycle in many lever guns. Not sure about why it has a flex tip if it's for those cartridges, but I'm not Mr. Hornady... lol I believe they make a 160 grain FTX that is designed for the 30-30. That, or you could trim the case necks enough to put the cannelure in the right place.

Assuming they are loaded with an appropriate standard powder charge (which could be questionable given the bullet choice), there is not a fundamental reason why they could not be fired in a 336 as a single-shot. The key caveat being that they chamber OK and without force. Where they loaded for target/plinking usage by somebody with a .30-30 Handi-Rifle?

^^^ I hafta agree. I was always told that any projectile used in tubular mags must have a meplat that is larger in diameter than the primer used. The exception is .22 RF which has the priming compound in the rim of the base. Was also told that it was not just because of igniting the primer in the other rounds because of recoil, but in the case of the rifle being dropped. IMHO, The ballistics of the 30-30(with standard 150-170 gr bullets) do not really benefit from spire-point bullets anyway.

Because of the way that cartridges align in a tubular magazine, it’s not likely you’ll have a problem.
However, the Maximum OAL for a M336 is 2.535”, you’ll likely have feed/cycling issues. Single feed will work OK... just don’t try to eject an unfired round.

And yeah, don’t expect those to expand as expected. Too slow.
I use them to great effect from my .30/06 @3,000fps and .300RUM @3,500fps!
Not so much at 2,200fps from a .30/30.
