Does anyone have a source for ground corn cob media? I would like to buy a larger quantity (5 gal pail, etc) for use in both my brass tumbler, and as bedding for my parrots.

yep, just make sure its the smaller granule size. Standard is 3/16-1/4" inch, but usually smaller sized granules are also available around 1/8", the package will clearly mark this, as it costs more for the manufacturer to produce the smaller size.
Sometimes Feed Stores catering to animal breeders will have this available in 48 or 50 lb bulk as well - again, check the size, as there is no simple way for you to reduce the size yourself.

You can also check for places that sell abrasives for sand blasting and stuff like that.
I got a 50 lb bag at one place here (can't recall the name at the moment) but it was about $25.
Great deal and they carry four different grades of the stuff.
HTH.

Hmmm... I had no idea it was that commonly available.

I'll have to look around a bit better locally. I never thought about feed stores. Thanks everyone.

The owner of one of the lumber yards in town is a fellow reloader and shooter. I asked him to start carrying bulk corncob, which he now does. A 40 pound bag is up to $15.25 a bag now. Until a month ago, it was $12.75 a bag, but fuel prices have driven it up, along with everything else.

As mentioned, get the 1/8" size corn cob. There is no way to reduce the larger corn cob. I tried a food processor, a coffee grinder and a sausage grinder, but none of them would do it.

Hope this helps.

I have found that FEED STORES, since they cater to larger animal lovers, have much better prices than Pet Stores, and have larger quantity sacks of the corn cob media.
