I just got a Star BM at a local pawn shop. It shoots fine but its finnish is almost all gone. There is still some original finnish left on the front of the slide and the top of the frame.

- Slide
- Frame
- Hammer
- Saftey
- Slide lever
- Trigger

Pretty much the entire gun needs work. How much would an average shop ask to have these parts reblued to its factory finnish?

Thanks

First of all let me say that I like the Star BM and consider them a very good gun. My brothers bought some from J&G out of AZ (they live close) and with a little tuning they run just fine.

As to bluing cost it will vary a lot between shops - I think your looking at an average price being around $100

Depending on what you paid for it your pawn shop bargain is possibly going to get expensive. I have seen some in 85% condition at gun shows with 2 magazines for $125. If you dump an additional $100 in it.....Not such a bargain.

I used to have a Star Super, Mod 30 and the BM. I liked them they are great guns, I just would not dump much money in them. The other thing to remember is spare parts are drying up.

Do it yourself!

I have been doing the Blue wonder gun blue on my K31, zo far so good. If you want "factory new" you might want to pay someone, but for $35 bucks their kit seems pretty good.

D-I-Y , Also

I have had good results in cold blueing even practically bare guns. The Brownell's products are superior to normal over the counter products. The Oxpo Blue is marginally longer wearing, but the T4 is easier to get a good , even coloring, and is nearly as durable. Depending on how heavily used/ abused (ie carried in holster) everything eventually wears. But once you're equiped you can give a touch up every 4 or 5 hundred hours of holster carry.

I had my Colt 1991A1 9mm reblued by the local smith. Cost was $105. He charged and extra $10 because I wanted the sides of the slide to be shiny. Unfortunately he is retiring and will soon close his shop. :(
